I sure hope they didn't push the date back! I was looking online right now and nothing.

Posted by: wooster019

If I remember right (and I could be totally off here), but I thought that the Juke didn't appear on the site until mid-day on the date is was released. Maybe that's just when I noticed it, but I thought I remember seeing it for the first time then.

Could pre-order still happen later today? Or is all hope now lost since it isn't up there?

also no word on new data packages....... i say thing is coming out....

I hope they didn't push it back to the 8th, with the rest of the pack.

Posted by: machpost

Knowing Verizon, they probably realized that this device is way too cool for them to actually release, so they've dropped it at the last minute

Posted by: Patmos

I just had a chat with vzw and she said "she had no information regarding the release of this phone but she understood my concerns". Whatever. This phone is gonna be awesome if we ever get it. Expecially with VZ Nav on it!

Maybe no Pre-Order after all, just 11/08 launch?

So far, the Oct. 26 preorder rumor isn't panning out.

It's a pretty big disappointment. If it's just the presale that's pushed back, that doesn't really bother me so much. I just hope the release date predictions aren't too far off.

Still no news on the pre release scheduled for today.

No. In the past hour, since the last person asked, there is no word on the pre-sale.

We? There have been many things which people have supposedly "known"...like the pre-order date...

I personally agree with you about the spec. However the Pearl is not out, and there fore this thread is largely fluff and speculation for now. No need for some posters to yell at others about certian pieces of speculation and not others. If people want to discuss wifi, it does not bother me more any of the other BS speculation in the thread.

I don't recall yelling at anyone.

BS speculation is what leads to threads getting closed and people getting bans. If you'll notice in this thread, a mod seems to agree that the wifi dreams are not worth discussing.

There's a difference between speculation and ignorance of facts. People asking questions about the wifi situation are simply ignoring the facts that are known about this phone.

That's good to hear. How early do you, generally, get a phone before it's released?

I wonder if they might just wait until the new BB (BIS) data plans are actually out before they put up the Pearl for sale.

I got my T-Mobile curve about a week and a half or so before its release...

I think VZW sent me the demo 8830 the day it was released in stores... BUT that was probably because I asked them to send me one to check out a little late...

Assuming that there will really be changes to the BB (BIS) data plans. I've also seen references that in case of these plans it might not happen until the 2nd or 3rd of November, but I can't recall for sure.

The second would make a little more sense than the third. It seems like it would be unusual to make such a change over a weekend.

Actually, a lot of changes take place on Sundays. New promos, rate plan changes.

I think this makes the most sense, since I believe you have to pick the data plan when you order the phone.

Unfortunately in many cases (although I'm not necessarily saying this is one of them), especially when it comes to information that's not really publicly available (yet) going by what a CSR says is like going by what a magic 8-ball will say.

I've heard this in the past, but haven't really paid attention, so I'll take your word for it. But, it is unusual for a phone to be released on a Sunday.

Frankly, I don't care, though. As long as it's out in the next couple of weeks, I'll be happy. Any longer, and I may just be tempted by something else.

You don't have to rely on the magic 8-ball. Call.

What I am saying is that by calling you are usually no better off than just asking the Magic 8-Ball, if that--and you won't really know whether or not you got the right information until the actual information becomes public and accessible anyway.

Umm, Verizon's own website calls it the Pearl. The CSR was messing with you.

Posted by: Null_Query

I decided to mess around and ask one of those people that are on the Verizon Chat thing and here was the conversation:

A Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with Crystall.
Crystall.: Hello thank you for visiting our chat service. How may I assist you with your order today?
You: My verizon business rep informed me last week that i would be able to pre-order the new Blackberry Pearl today, but you guys arent showing the phone anywhere on your website or through the business channels..........
You: When will we be able to order this
Crystall.: We don't have the phone offered at this time.
Crystall.: You would need to check inthe next week or two to order that pda.

You: Nov. 1st or 8th....... any specific date i should be looking for?
Crystall.: We haven't been given a specific date.

You: Hey have you heard anything about the new Blackberry Storm?
Crystal: No, I have not.

HAHA sorry i just had to do that.......

Posted by: i need help

i called verizon to see what the csr would say when i asked about the pearl. He said he has nothing on it but thinks it will be out at thanksgiving.

so who knows......ill stick with the magic 8-ball....

Posted by: Patmos

I was in my verizon store and my good friend that works there went to the back and came out and whispered to me it was available online the 8th. I know you hear everything on here but that is what she said anyway. I have no doubt she read it from the info she had but I guess we will just have to see if it was accurate.

Posted by: liquidplatinum

Mark will probably have it before me, but I'll actually have the Pearl on Nov 2. I'll give a review when I get it to see how I like it.

Posted by: Monkeyshack

I may be crazy but a search of "Blackberry Storm" with quotes pulls up the Pearl 2 link..

I wouldn't count on that... My reps told me I'll have one next week... BUT didn't say if that would be beginning or end of the week...

Its in their best interest to get me one as soon as possible (I must validate in our environment in order to offer to my users)... SO they do get them to me as quickly as they can....

But sometimes they can run it over and drop it off to me.. other times they have to ship it into me...

My AT&T rep had Rim drop ship me an 8820... it took less than 3 days from when I made the request to be on my desk... However, that request was made a day or two after the release.

Well, I saw the I760 today and did I walk away impressed! From the pictures, that thing looks huge and ugly. I put it side by side with my maxx with extended battery and it was not much bigger. Very nice build to it. I was going to buy it but the girl changed her mind at the last minute saying the system would not allow her to process the order.....I was bummed. Now that I know the Pearl will have no wifi, I am rethinking everything. What is a sure thing for me today will be different tommorow. My point to this post is that I find it very hard to justify buying a Pearl over an I760. I'll do some more research.

Ferniesp, I am torn between the i760 and the Pearl myself, and the WiFi could be the reason I lean towards the i760. Then again, maybe the price will drop on the i760 when I'm ready to purchase, or something else comes out that I like better than the i760.

I don't think any of us will be surprised if it comes out on the eighth. That's the date that was floated from the start. So far, the surprising thing is that it hasn't gone up for presale yet, as we were all expecting.

For me, it all depends on this whole data pricing thing. If nothing changes, I'll lean towards a Windows device over the Pearl, or possibly even go back to my original thoughts of getting the Voyager. If the BIS price drop happens, as rumored, I'll go with the Pearl.

I'd really like the freedom of a Windows Mobile device, but the forty-five bucks a month really bothers me.

0mie said nothing might change, or VZW is just using a ploy. The local corp store said it was going to be $30, but if it still stays @$45, I'm going to drop down to the $25 10mb plan and watch my usage.

I have an official document in front of me stating that it's going to $29.99. The document states BlackBerry BIS plans as the only change, not BES or PDA plans.

$29.99 Data for blackberry would totally make me get a BB again. honestly the pricepoint is the reason I don't have a BB anymore. /em crosses fingers and hopes opacity is correct!!!

Were'nt we supposed to be able to pre-order the pearl like yesterday or today or something?

Originally, yesterday is what we all thought. Apparently, that information was inaccurate. So, we wait.

One thing I don't have with me is the release dates. I can't remember which thread it was, but can someone please repost the dates? I seem to remember a pre-order date, a business channel launch date, an online launch date, and an in store launch date.

The original dates we had went like this:

Pre-order - Oct. 26

Business Release - Nov. 1

Online Release - Nov. 8

In Store - Not sure

Obviously, we're already off to a bad start, so the accuracy of these dates is up in the air.

Honestly, I never heard any [internal] information regarding a Sept 26 pre-order (or any other pre-order date) for the Pearl. The release dates should still be right though.

I know exactly how you feel...I'm in pretty much the same boat. If the price doesn't drop I'll forgo the Pearl, which I really want, and get a Chocolate and some PDA too. I don't really want to go back to two devices though. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm pretty sure the plan prices will drop, I already had 2 corp reps tell me.

Posted by: BlackBerry

Make that 2.5 if you count former reps.

Posted by: BlackBerry

Since the launch is pending, it's time to create a pre-release thread. Pictures of the device can be seen here:

BlackBerry Pearl 8130
and here...
BlackBerry Pearl 8130

The BlackBerry BIS data plan will be $29.99 (effective November 1st), allowing "prosumers" to use the BlackBerry features at a competitive cost.

Any additional information? Please share with us!

Hi, I'm not usually interested in Blackberry's but I was wondering what the preorder date was for the Pearl. I read it in the Voyager thread that it was supposed to be on the 26th for preorder but nothing's changed on Verizon's site.

Does anyone know what the deal is?

We're still trying to figure that one out; several corporate reps that post here regularly say that they weren't even aware of a pre-order date.

Yes, all BIS BB users will have the same $29.99 pricing, if you are on the old plan you have to call and get it changed.

BES BB users will still have the pay the old data price.

Will there be a combo plan option that combines voice, like the current data plans?

I assume that the 11/8 launch is for both online & stores? I know in the past, they have started selling phones online sometimes a week or so before they show up in stores.

BES is if your company uses its own exchange server and your company IT dept manages BB stuff.

BIS is for your average joe user.

So you would fall in the BIS category.

Thats not the full explanation, but its in simple easy to understand words lol.

still boggles my mind why they wouldn't just do a pre-order??? even if it is delayed...

Just got off the phone with Customer service and was told that it should be available for Pre-Order online. He said that it started the 26th. Checked and it was still not there. Interesting that there system says that it is available for pre-order? Strange?

did you try pre-ordering it on the phone instead of online????

My b2b rep I just emailed said he didn't see the Pearl in their system, so he couldn't tell me the retail or corporate cost.

Fantastic...I'm beginning to lose confidence in these release dates.

Posted by: j2sheck

I started out really excited for this phone when I first read it was coming to Verizon. My contract's been up for a few months now and I just keep holding out hope, but now with all the inconsistency in release dates, will this thing ever see the light of day? We're already in November this week, and not an official peep from Verizon.

The further along this thing is pushed, the less I want it, considering it's a phone that was released for T-Mobile nearly 14 months ago (despite the 8130's addition of video recording and GPS [crippled?]). Best case scenario, the phone comes out Nov. 8, and in two years when my contract's up again, it will technically be more than a 3 year old phone! Does this make anyone else uneasy, or are you all just good and used to Verizon being technologically behind the times?

This is really a totally different Pearl than the one that was released on T-Mobile and AT & T. It does add video recording, GPS (I don't think it's been proven that the GPS is crippled yet, someone correct me if I'm wrong), a slight redesign of the keyboard and best of all, EVDO data speeds, which blows edge away. I really wouldn't say that the 8130 is techologically behind the times; basically just the form factor that is a year old.

Posted by: jseah

From what I understand, the GPS is not crippled. It does come pre-loaded with VZ Navigator though.

Posted by: hamdude

Am I right in thinking that if we pre-order the 8130, the phone will be shipped out on the 7th via next day shipping, so that we get it on the 8th?

Someone with a pre-release unit posted that GPS was crippled on it. It also didn't have VZNav on it yet, however.

Most likely, the GPS is crippled.

You may want to ask that question in the Juke thread. They're the only Verizon users who've ever actually experienced a Verizon preorder.

Posted by: jsprewell

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from reading this (and the other forum) about the $30 BIS plan, it seems that the $30 is in addition to the voice plan? That would put it at ~$10 cheaper than the current $80 plan with 450min/unlim data/etc.

Also, what would the plan likely include (or is it just replacing)? I know I am looking at the least amount of min (450) because 90% of the people I know and/or do business with have Verizon. I also want unlimited data, the IN text plan and tethering. At current plans/rates it would have the $80 Voice/BB plan + $15 IN Text + $15 Tethering. Are any of these going to be combined into the $30 plan?

Posted by: cellfonescrewer

The new plans seem to be up for my B2B site. 10MB for $20, Unlimited for $24 and unlimited for $35.

I'm assuming that 24 is not unlimited?

Most likely, the GPS is crippled.

The release version of the VZW Pearl will have the ability to have/use/purchase VZNav.

The 8830 will also be getting VZNav via RIM OS update...

What is not yet known... Will other apps (like BB Maps, Google Maps, etc) be able to access the GPS in the Verizon 8830 and 8130?

So, while VZNav will be there... the GPS might still turn out to be 1/2 crippled

That's correct--the plan will be $34.99 for those planning to use it just for data (no voice).

BIS with voice plan: $29.99
BIS without voice plan: $34.99

It is 3 days from B2B and Preorder and we still don't know a price yet for the 8130? Whats the secret? I need to know what the price is before I buy it. If it is too high, I might wait for another smartphone to release.

I will admit, in two years of working for Verizon (ex-employee) and several years of following them, I haven't seen this much of a lack of information in quite a while, if ever.

When I go on the order site looking at phones, the box just pops up. I don't think there is a "link" to actually click on anywhere.

Just received this info via email from my B2B rep:

Quote: Our tech guy just got the answer. It looks like $299.99 2 yr. Minus $50 mail in rebate, minus $100 credit for unlimited data pkg. So, it looks like $149.99, GREAT price!

I hope this is it because I also have NE2. I also have asked if the data packages are changing which it appears they are.

Assuming NE2 could be used in addition to that (but even if not I guess), that's actually a pretty good price for a phone like that (especially with some prices of feature phones, like RAZR2 and/or the rumored LG Voyager, being quite a bit higher than that).

Do we know if NE2 will go on top of all these discounts?

that would make it $49.99 - $99.99! that seems too good to be true...........

299.99 - 50MIR would be great considering it was supposed to be 349.99- 50MIR. They must have changed that recently....

Wow, if its 299.99 I would get it for free after rebate. Fantastic.

Posted by: ward66

well, i used by new any two 10 days ago and got the 8830 for $100 after all the rebates, I dont see why the pearl (which i will be returning my 8830 to get) with "less" features, should cost more.

I was able to get the BB 8830 on the first day at $99.99 with my discounts. Seems about right. I will take it for $149.99 and sell my Treo on eBay and almost break even.

Did they change the rules? The last time I qualified for NE2, I had gotten "the V" and I was told that I could not use NE2 through B2B. I ended up going through retail as it was cheaper for me to use my NE2 than to use the corporate discounted pricing on handsets.

I have always done it this way. I would have done what you did if I were told it was any different.

What do you mean by "less" features?

Posted by: jdougal

Well this is a must then if NE2 works and this ends up costing $50.

Posted by: BlackBerry

I'll only get $50 off as I'm adding it to one of my secondary lines.

Posted by: ushneb

I wasn't aware you NE2 applied to secondary lines, only the primary. I just got my mom a new phone yesterday and there was no 'extra' discount and she's been past her 2 year mark a couple of months ago.

NE2 doesn't apply to secondary lines. (This is quite off topic though.)

I'm not talking about NE2, I'm talking about the advanced device discount--since the secondary line isn't on a plan that's $39.99 or higher, I only get $50 off of the price.

Sorry to be unclear, I didn't mean to imply VZNav would not end up being on it. I just don't consider it a viable GPS solution on a phone with an inbuilt GPS chip. Hence, GPS will be crippled.

Thanks for the price info. Does anyone else remember the old days when Verizon would have the most expensive phones by far? No one can compete with Verizon's pda prices anymore.

I'm uncertain at this moment, but from everything I've been reading and told by various people, the Pearl will have an updated version of the software the 8830 has. The Pearl should have all the features the 8830 has plus the camera, etc. The only reason to go for the 8830 was the qwerty keyboard and the world phone capabilities.

Posted by: jseah

One obvious reason I see in buying it through the b2b route rather than b2c is that the price of phones under a one year contract from the b2b site is only $30 more than the price under a two year contract.

Does anyone know what accessories are already out there for the 8130? I know the camera placement for the Pearl 2 is different than the 8100, so are there any cases out there that fit the Pearl 2? Also, will the 8100 charging stand work on the 8130?

From what I've read, it comes with stereo headphones and a charger, but not a dock or a case.

Posted by: Shemmy

Pretty much everything for the Pearl will (should) work form the Pearl2. If the camera placing is different, then one of the exceptions will be skins.

Posted by: Sarlic

I currently have the 8830, and I have no end of headaches having to go to VZWpix.xom to view all MMS messages. I'll never understand why that is disabled.

I'm seriously considering a switch over to the Pearl 2 for the form factor, the camera, etc.

I'm assuming that MMS will NOT be disabled on the Pearl 2?

I read on blackberryforums.com that GPS will be enabled for 3rd party programs (someone heard this from a verizon business sales rep during a sales meeting or something).

From what I've been told by our B2B rep, since the Pearl 2 has a camera, it will be enabled for sending and receiving MMS. I still don't understand why they disabled it on the 8830.

Posted by: Sarlic

Thanks, I hope this is the case.

I'm a bit upset to lose the full querty and the size of the screen etc, but I guess these are the tough decisions we have to make. :-) The lack of MMS is just stupid. I read somewhere that it was done like this to force people to use the internet from their blackberry and thus pay, etc.

If that's the case, that's really unbelievable.

I'd switch to AT&T if the coverage wasn't so much worse than Verizon. Here's hoping that AT&T beefs that up some day so we can all wave goodbye!

It's sad how some people are just so selfish to the fact that reps sign NDAs and don't understand that 95% of reps/employees in general aren't going to risk their jobs to tell people pre-release info

The only slight exception to this are B2B reps. They're allowed a little bit more flexiblity (especially major/corporate/gov't account reps) when it comes to business decisions that might cost them accounts.

C'mon Verizon!

You would rather have to wait until after Thanksgiving?

I'll take mine next week, thanks.

Chat InformationA Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with Rochelle
You: I was trying to find info on the new blackberry plans that are supposed to come out
Rochelle: We do not them at this time and we have not been provided with the details of these plans yet.
You: are they changing?
Rochelle: Yes, they are.

I also talked to a CSR and they said they've been told $30 for unlimited, they just don't know when... as she put it "we're the last to know anything"

How oh how do you "chat with a CSR" rep? I go the the verizon wireless website on a daily basis and search and search and I've never seen this option......I see dozen's of people posting chat transcripts! Can some one explain this or provide a link? I have pop up's disabled and still can't get there! It's bad enough I've been waiting over a year for a new phone now VZW finds another way to anoy me!

Usually, when I'm browsing their site, it will pop up after awhile. You may be blocking it.

Try browsing the sales site. Like you are picking out a new phone. It should pop up. Seems after I accepted the invite once, it pops up everytime I am there now. There is no link for the chat.

Even the ability to use the GPS for 3rd party apps without forking over $9.99 for Navigator?

Posted by: portseven

Funny, my B2B rep just told me it wouldn't be out until "mid-November". Obviously not true though, although you'd think they would know a day and a half before release. Here's to Thursday!

Posted by: Scientia

I must have not seen your post or the others stating the release date by verizon and I haven't seen anything official. I guess I was under the impression that the dates were still a moving target and not really known since the last "official" document was wrong.

I said "C'mon" because I wanted something official from VZW since sprint has now confirmed, even if the VZW one is coming out before the sprint version

So my mistake... sorry

Generally if you call VZW and talk to a CSR they're a little more informative

Verizon, Google Discuss Mobile Phone Partnership

After opposing Google Inc.'s moves to dramatically reshape the wireless industry, Verizon Wireless is now in serious discussions with the Internet company over carrying phones tailored to a new Google operating system, a person familiar with the discussions said.

Within two weeks, Google is expected to announce new software and services that handset makers could use to build customized Google-powered phones. The company needs wireless operators to sign onto the project in order to get Google-powered mobile devices in front of consumers by the middle of next year.

If VZW can talk to Google and this goes through, Apple should see this as a slap in the face.

You can't get much more vague than that.

Wow the Google phone is SO relevant to the Pearl zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Posted by: BlackBerry

Well, it seems as if numerous reports are pointing to November 8th, so I'd guess that it's fairly accurate.

Are you and I the only ones that noticed that? Keep to the Pearl. That's why we are all here. If we wanted to hear more rumors about google products we would go and find it.

It's a 52 page long thread; it's not even worth the time to point things out such as these.

That was my thinking exactly.

Posted by: cellmet

So, has anyone been able to confirm what accessories will be included? Several pages back there was some discussion on this, but I don't think anything confirmed. A case would be nice.

Posted by: mbpyro

According to:

http://blackberryforums.pinstack.co...arl_8830_a.html

Someone posted that they spoke to a director of data support for the NE, and claims the GPS will be fully unlocked.

I'm just as skeptical as the rest of you, but that would just be awesome.

The standard accessories that come with the T-Mobile and AT&T Pearl are...

AC Travel Charger
USB cable
Wired earbud/mic for hands free
Desktop Manager CD
guide of some kind
Pearl
Battery

SO I'm expecting the same.

With other Blackberries thus far, Verizon has NOT included the wired earbud/mic. So I'm expecting the VZW Pearl to NOT come with one.

I doubt they will include a "belt holster" or "sleeve" as the GSM Pearl's don't... but VZW might suprise us...

Maybe you guys should post 6 more messages about relevance because that is what everyone wants to read...

But maybe you could stop and think that this could be a major development for the software the pearl is going to run...

Also... If this is a large annoouncement, maybe the pearl is being held up for it...

But keep posting your snooty remarks...

After much thought, I think I am going to pass on the Pearl as well. I was at ComUSA last night looking at Cingular's Pearl. Yes, I know Verizon's will be a bit different but not by much. I tried to text a few lines(what a pain in the ***). I mean, it's cute and all but clearly not for such a manly guy like me.. . Hopefully the curve will be next.

So are we still thinking tomorrow (11/1) for B2B ordering? Seems to be a lot less chatter than I've come to expect the day before a launch...

It doesn't come with an earbud but it will come with something called the "Blackberry Pocket". It's a case of some sort but the info page didn't really elaborate on what that was.

I stumbled across a preview site somewhere that stated that it was going to come with earbuds, however I don't know if the actual post-production model will.

The Google operating system has absolutely NOTHING to do with the pearl. The pearl is released on November 8; the handsets that potentially (note: tentatively) may be running a Google OS won't be out until mid-2008.

The keyboard is reportedly improved on the Pearl2. I will be getting the Pearl and likely selling it if/when the Curve comes out.

I have heard that as well. When I had the Pearl with AT&T, it took about a week and a half to become accustomed to the keyboard; once I did, I found that I was messaging faster on it than on a normal phone or QWERTY keyboard.

From what I've heard/seen the trackball is further embedded into the phone... the Send, End & Nav keys are larger.. and the overall 'feel' of the keyboard is improved in solidity with a less mushy feel.

From everything I've read, this has nothing to do with a Google OS anyway. It's about making Google applications compatible with Verizon/BREW phones.

For what it's worth....

I just called the normal VZW Service and the Rep (John) originally said no info was available as to the release date for the Pearl. So then I asked about the 6800 when he went to look for that release date he found the Pearl and said it must have been loaded into their system this morning. He said the date for release for the Pearl via all channels was 11/8.

We'll see....

Does anyone know if the background noise reduction advertised to be on the Pearl 2 will help with the issue that many 8830 users are experiencing?...I tried an 8830 in the store and its not background noise on the device end, its what it picks up and sends to the other end...I left a voice mail for myself from the noisy store and it was incredible how loud the background sounds were...greatly reduced ability to understand my voice????

I'll also be interested to see the voice quality of the VZW Pearl2. A friend of mine has the 8830 and I find even slight background noise on his end makes his voice difficult to understand!!

Does anyone know if this was as much an issue with the 8703e...you dont see that complaint on postings...but anyone with experience with the two devices???? thanks

An email just went out from our wireless team at work saying VZW had delayed the release until 11/8. We have a pretty good rep, so I tend to believe them.
