activation fees for unlocked phones?

I'm about 1/2 year into a 2 year contract and want to upgrade my phone. I apparently qualify for Premier through my employer and can get a phone I like (SE w810i) at a good price through that, but there's also an upgrade fee & activation fee. I could also order an unlocked GSM phone (SE z710i) that costs more, but it would be worth it to me if I didn't have to pay any such upgrade or activation fees. Does anyone know if these fees apply to unlocked phones? Or can I just put my SIM card in the unlocked phone & be on my way? I don't intend to use any data services -- just phone calls & maybe SMS.

thanks.

If you upgrade through Cingular I'm pretty sure you'll have to pay the $18 upgrade fee. If you get your own unlocked phone, just put in the SIM card and you should be all set. (Data service will require setup on your phone, but you said you probably wouldn't use that.)
