Well I decided to de-brand my phone, after all these rave reviews about wotanserver.com I decided to give them a try.

Well after spending a year trying to get wotan to find my phone....

I got everything detected. I was doing the flash process when Wotan crashed.

EEEeeeek!

Went to turn on my phone, it did YaY . However it gives me an error after going into the phone mode, something about not configured properly.

Well at least my phones not a brick, I can still flash.

Well after an hour wait, a computer reboot, and a shut down of all applications and processes not vital to windows... I tried again.

Only for the Wotan client to crash, again, in the same spot.

Phone still is flashable, but not useable as a phone.

Grrrr, So now I am out $20.00. I do have 2 tickets open at Wotanserver.com, see where that gets me, and a New phone that does not work

Im really starting to wish I would have left my phone alone.

Both times Wotan crashed like this, this is the end of the log file before crash, both times it crashed, it looked like this:
CSLOADER: writing customization files
w810: WotanInfo
/tpa/preset/custom/CONTENT_DOWNLOAD_HOOK.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/customize.xml

(Here is a little tip, if your having trouble with wotan.)

1a. Begin by charging your phone.
1b. Install all drivers that came on the disk with your phone. If you dont have access to the disk you can download the contents from sonyericsson.com
2. Download and install the sony ericsson update service package. Follow the instructions. (I used this method to install the usb flash drivers)
3. Download and install the wotan client. While doing this purchase a credit from them to be able to use the client. (http://www.wotanserver.com)
4. Install and run the wotan client. Check your email that your registerd with through paypal, and record the Log-in and Password information from your email.
5. When the client is started, it will begin by downloading information from the internet. After this is done, there is an area to type in your login and password information. Type in your login and password, and left click the "check" button to make sure that your login is correct, and you have credits in your account. Leave the client running and continue to the next step.
6. When your phone is 100% charged continue on to the next step.
7. Alright, your phone is totally charged? Now remove the SIM card and any other memory cards from the phone. (You might have to remove the battery to do this, after the SIM card and memory card are removed from the phone go ahead and replace the battery. Leave the phone OFF)
8. Connect the DCU-60 cable to your computer. (The USB end of course, and you may do this at anytime before this step)
9.In the Wotan Client left mouse click the "Start" Button. (Wotan Client will say something like: Connect your phone pressing "C" waiting...)
10. Locate the "c" key on your phone. Press and hold down the c key (on your phone). While still holding down the "c" key instert the DCU-60 cable into your phone.
11. The Wotan client should find your phone. Once it has detected and displayed the information about your phone you can let go of "c".

**The DCU-60 Cable is the one that came with your sony ericsson phone**

Wotan Still Not Detecting Your Phone?

While holding down C and inserting the cable, if you get a Found New Hardware window you need to download the USB Flash Drivers. You can find this driver in a few different places. Step 2 should take care of this problem since the Sony Ericsson updater has the driver with it. If you have installed the Sony Ericsson updater and get this window, then try searching for the driver on your computer since it should be there. If windows finds it just install the driver by clicking next then finish as you would with any other hardware/driver.

Remember you are pushing and holding the "c" key on your PHONE

Push and Hold the "c" before inserting the DCU-60 cable, continue pressing the c untill wotan detects your phone. (It should take no longer than 5 seconds to detect). After wotan had detected the phone, you may let go of the "c" key.

Make sure your phone is OFF before inserting the DCU-60 cable

If for some reason your phone does not want to start up after detecting with wotan or are having trouble during the detection process, try un-inserting and re-inserting your battery, or turning your phone off and on if possible.

Definitely helped me out with the re-inserting battery thing, I couldn't figure out for the life of me why it wasn't working lol

On the other hand, I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience with wotanserver...mine was actually pretty flawless. It's just too bad I can't seem to make those darn flash menus work...still, it's good to have the Rogers things out of there

Hello again,

Well both of my tickets were answered with "Supply us with the following information: Operating System version and language, Firewall, VirusScan, Router, and Internet connection speed.

Well I replied back letting them know that I was not running through the router, and had all process and applications off while using wotan.

That was at 8:00AM this morning, and it is now 8:44PM no responce back to my reply, ....figures.... perhaps I will try and get my $20 back.

I went over to the davinciteam's website and used there service, and it worked flawlessly, I now have a phone again.. That Works,

That's DavinciTeam 1, Wotanserver -1.

SirGuyNate: I had the EXACT same experience, and they asked me for my wotan.log files... even though the program had crashed out, and my third time running it, it overwrote the file from the last crash saying i was out of credits. Right down to Tech Support asking me for the OS and all that. And mine crashed at the same spot - doing the customizations. Similar lack of reply, and I'm trying to get my money back as well, but I'm not hopeful.

And DaVinci had me up and running in 5 minutes - go figure. At least THEIR program didn't crash on me, at the customization spot - I suspect it's just some piece of odd coding.

Wow these are odd results. I flashed my K790 last night with MSN, Firefox, Winamp, Norton, Azerus and a router running at the same time. Flash was done in 3 min. Flawless. I guess I dodged a bullet.

Same thing happened to me guys !
Wotan crashed right at the end, but with a twist :

1- My phone was bricked, "configuration error" when trying to turn it on.

2- Wotan TOOK my credit, so I couldn't even TRY it again
without paying again.

I opened a ticket with them two days ago.
All I got was "We are working on this issue and when
it is resolved we will give you back your credit"

Thanks!
How long will THAT take, days, weeks ?
How about some kind of timeframe guys ?
How about a work around ?
(Gee I dunno, give me back my credit and let me try again)

SO now I've got a cell phone that's not much more than a paperweight and all I have to go on is the hope that they will fix their problem "soon".

The SE website also offers a firmware update. Its free and will bring your phone back to life. Give it a try.

lol,
It's a frustrating exercise in patience, I can understand why people go nuts and start trying alternative means immediately (ie trying out davinci or hitting the local unlocking shop) which of course means paying more $$.

I had been following this thread and others, and thought I might be one of the lucky ones that would have a flawless flashing experience with wotan.
(though to be fair it seems davinci has its own share of "configuration error" threads too.)

I unsuccessfully tried debranding my w810 recently and I'm awaiting a solution without paying more money or trying the phonexs or sefp+FAR methods, just out of principal. Though at 2 in the morning I was pretty ready to give davinci a try.

My session paralleled many mentioned above and I too have the "configuration error" message. Though the walkman still works fine. (no luck on the camera though)

What seems to be of interest is that my response to my support ticket mentions
Quote:
"we are now working on a fix for this issue, hopefully we will have something sorted by the end of today,".
So I am suspicious that our experience is not an isolated ocurance and has something to do with the chosen update or perhaps the client itself.

I must point out that the support guy handling my ticket has been quite prompt and friendly/polite, so I'm not too freaked out or worried yet.

I'll eventually learn how to do the free methods since it seems to offer more control and options but in the meantime I'm awaiting.

Hang in there guys, something should work out soon...I hope.

oooh oooh, just got an email saying..
Quote:
Thanks for your patience, we have now fixed all the problems with the client, and a new version is available to download from our website, please download it and try now

so I guess that was the problem.
I'll try again and post my results.
(wish me luck... this fourth time around)

....well, I almost made it.

I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but everything seemed to be going great, I even got a "update finished" message. However I was not able to 'finalize' the procedure. The option to click 'finalize' or 'disable playnow' were greed out, so I clicked the only available button which was 'start'
The client asked for the phone, found it, and that's it.... nothing since.

Initially I clicked all of the check boxes -except- finalize. (in an attempt to save the trouble of getting my credits re-instated if the debranding was unsuccessful)
I was under the impression that the procedure isn't finished until I 'finalize' it, and hence a credit would not be deducted. I hope I wasn't wrong.

Hopefully they haven't gone home for the night I'd like to have this fixed before going to bed (since I was up till three last night)

addition: oh yeah I forgot to mention that I tried the SEUS update this morning and it didn't help.(it connected and updated something but I still got the configuration error)

which btw I still do with my phone in a pre-finalized state.

what is the "update service package?" I installed the SE PC Suite that came with my phone. is that all i need to do, driver-wise?

Ok update!

I noticed in the log that I had used the old 0.9.991 client, and just at the same time I received an email informing me of the same thing and letting me know I should try again (with my re-instated credits)!

It seems I downloaded the updated client the first time around but perhaps it went into a default download folder and I ended up clicking yesterday's client. This time I made extra sure I used the new client. (I guess the updating that occurs when you start the client does not update it to the newest version?)

I re-read through the getting started guide and it does not explicitly mention anything about the 'finalize' check box. (though perhaps it was not an issue with finalization but with the me using the wrong client)

This final attempt at debranding went smoothly and quickly, no hiccups during the process. I clicked everything (amr, finalize, reset counter, view lock, etc) and let it do it's work.

I have just completed setup and I am really enjoying the flash themes and extra items loaded onto the phone (ringtones etc). I tested out the mp3 for ringtone and it works too. The 'internet' softkey has also been replaced with 'menu'. and calls can be made in and out. I haven't tried sms text or the internet yet.

There are two other things that I noticed that I though would have been different. (One I don't care about and the other I am dissapointed about. )
1. the playnow icon is still in the menu choices, however perhaps it is just an icon that I can now re-program to do other things. (this one I don't car about)
2. This is the one thing that let me down.
I have found that I cannot silence the camera shutter or auto focus sounds, even with silent mode on. In fact the focus beep sound louder than before! I have even tried the different sound options in camera mode and they only change the shutter click sound.
I hope to have this issue rectified. but I'll deal with that later.
right now I'm going to bed

Cheers

Yea, I just noticed it updated there client.

Im not going to try again, my phone is working becaue of davinciteam, and I thank them.

Honestly the equalizer animated theme's menu is awesome! I just changed the standard backround to a different one.

Oh and you can go to sonyericsson's wepage, and they will send to your phone, your carriers wap and sms settings.

Update: I recieved an email from wotan support.
Their email said that they do not have access to roger's phones so they are not able to test things. (and hence cannot guarantee that those features will be present/missing after a debranding procedure.
I see that my ticket for " failure to remove shutter sound " has been closed with no resolution, so I guess that's it.

OK for the record I guess it should be noted that:
-flashing a rogers w810i on wotan (if choosing the latest firmware (R4ED001) and choosing "Generic USA (Brightpoint USA)" CDA will not result in a silent camera.

I ended up doing the sefp+FAR method to get rid of the shutter and autofocus sound. It went even more smoothly than my Wotan experience.
(this is not a dig at them or thier service, they were very gracious and renewed my credits more than once, and I must admit they were able to debrand my phone, however it took three days for me to get at the point I am now.)
(well I took myself the rest of the way as it took the first two days to get debranded, a day waiting to see if I would get my shutter sound turned off and two hours figuring out and performing the sound removal myself when I found out that I was on my own)

hi

if you would like to contact support again on your last ticket, we will add another credit to your account, since we just released the next new client with all bugs fixed, this should sort your play now button.

Posted by: dubmonkey

I gave the new client (ver 0.9.993) a try and everything went very smoothly!
(5minutes max start to finish)

This time the silent shutter option works when the camera is on silent. (thank you) The 'playnow' button is now 'sonyericsson' when I am in a non flash theme. (I haven't tried pressing it to see what happens) -however-
the 'playnow' icon is still there when I'm in one of the flash themes (ie orbit)
I guess since the flash menus are standalone/self contained flash files that it does/can not change.
Though I must point out that the playnow issue wasn't/isn't important to me, I just pointed it out for reference purposes.
Everything else seems in order (menu instead of internet softkey, flash themes, etc)

As a bonus it seems this re-flash is slightly less laggy when it starts up. The sony walkman blob animation on startup used to be quite choppy but now it is quite smooth.

Thanks again for all your help!

So for the record it should be noted that:
-flashing a rogers w810i on wotan (with the latest firmware (R4EA031) and choosing "Generic USA (Brightpoint USA)" CDA will result in a silent camera when in silent mode.

(I will still have to go back in with FAR/XS to delete some of the pre-loaded songs and ringtones , but overall I'm very happy)

Props to WotanServer for crediting everyone whos flash didn't work. I had a similar experience with Gsmliberty.net except that they stopped replying to my ticket and no credit was issued. I spent over $30 for the cables + shipping + the credit and it was useless..
