Firmware backup through chip desoldering

I recently was looking through the service manual for the E815 and noted that the flash IC is not able to report its contents back to the user. If I understand correctly this is what prevents reading firmware from phones. The question that is raised by this is, is it possible to extract data directly from the chip. The schematics for the e815 show the memory chip is kag00j007m-cgg2000. A quick google of this reports the chip as a Samsung chip with 32 megs of Dram and 32x2 banks of flash reference here: http://www.eetimes.com/news/latest/...cleID=159400942.
Further investigation shows that this chip is readable on test boards. Could someone with more electrical engineering experience tell me if it would be possible to first desolder the chip from the phone, and then read the contents with a flash programmer?

I have done some more research on the e815 chip and have emailed Samsung requesting product information. Hopefully if they respond with pinouts I can find some way read the flash memory directly. I would appreciate any input, especially if I am missing something obvious.
Thanks
