Hi, I'm new to the forum and was looking for some help with extending my cingular contract. My contract ends in a few weeks and I'm very interested in getting a new phone, especially the w810 and the k790/k800.

Where are the best deals available? I heard you can now port your number through amazon. I've seen the w810 for free on wirefly and amazon, but the k790 and k800 are nowhere to be found. I also really wanted to try a slider phone like the w850, but cannot find it. Do these phones need to the ordered seperately? Thanks in advance for your help.

Only the W810i is available through Cingular. The K790a is the one you want from the K790/K800 family. It has 850/1900 and EDGE. It is only available unlocked/unbranded or through the Canadian carrier Rogers. I just bought a unlocked one and should be here in a few days. The W850i is also only available via importers and won't work too good depending on where you live with Cingular because it lacks 850 and EDGE for internet.

Thanks a lot for your response, I appreciate it. I've read reviews and many seem to like the w810, it has great features and seems to be good phone. I was really after a flip phone and didn't care to much for the music aspect. Some songs might be nice, but I don't plan on putting too much music on there.

How did you like it and what made you upgrade to the k790a? If you don't mind me asking, what's the k790a run? It seems hard to justify spending the extra money because the w810 is basically free.

I got the K790a for $430 From the Sony Style Store with tax and shipping. But I will get a $100 credit for opening a CC with them. I wanted the QVGA screen, the better camera, Xenon Flash, better video player compared to the W810i.

Wow, that's very expensive! I figured it would be in the $250-300 range. I'll probably stick with the w810 for now then. I've never had a se phone, so I hope it's good. I had a few nokia phones and liked them. Switched to a motorola and I hate it.

I checked out the w810 before purchasing my k790a through Amazon unlocked for $425. Both phones are very nice, the main selling point for me was the 3.2 mp camera with flash and larger screen. I do own a normal digital camera so the phone is more for convenience. The k790a also feels more solid and uses more luxurious materials.

Thanks for your input. I think with the price differences I'll be happy with the w810. I would rather have the better camera from the k790a than the walkman features, but oh well. I know the w810 is a great phone, and especially for free, it's a great deal.

I can send but not receive video MMS since Cingular does not recognize my phone. Also MMS pics that I receive are small on my phone. If MMS is important than the w810 may be a better choice. Instant messagner may be a problem too.

How does this phone handle AMR HR?
