BlackJack SGH-i607 PC connection HELP!

i did a search on this topic but i cannot seem to find a valid solution to my problem.
i just recently bought a samsung blackjack.
i have never had a problem connecting a phone to my pc. however this is my first PDA phone, and it is driving me nuts to having this thing connect to my PC.
everytime i connect the blackjack via usb cable, it detects it, but i cannot install it therefore windows cannot recognize my phone. instead of using active sync 4.2 (which comes with the phone) i have installed active sync 4.5 hoping that this will fix my problem. however active sync cannot even find my phone. i do not have any fire walls running ( no router, no 3rd party firewall program ) and im assuming its just because windows can't recognize my phone. can anyone help me? i searched for the usb drivers but no luck!!

I'm surprised no one helped you out yet. Looks like there is a batch of defective Blackjacks going around.
