V3xx battery experiences

In St. Louis we have 3G.
I'm looking at maybe making 15 minutes calls/day.
A few SMS, and maybe a little MP3 music over lunch.
Not that interested in data as $19.99 seems way to expensive
to browse on a cell phone.
I keep my phone on 24/7.
What can i expect in terms of battery life?

I currently can go 5-6 days on my V3
with 15 minutes calls/day and a few SMS and on 24/7.

2-3 days is what you can expect on the default settings....

now if you change it to lock down to the 3G band only (only do this if you have pretty much full 3G coverage where live/work at), you will get a longer life as it kills all the constant searching for EDGE as 3G signal decreases......

also, changing the brightness on the screen can have a significant impact on battery life as well.

That's interesting because I thought 3G was the cause of reduced battery life
in most 3G phones.

Having the phone in 2G mode would help the battey wouldn't it.

3G will reduce battery life compared to 2G - this is true.

the V3xx by default will turn to 3G as long as the signal is good enough, but it will start searching for 2G once the signal starts to drop. this searching, albeit sometimes unnecessary searching, is what drains a lot of life on the V3xx. but, with a little seem editing (search this forum and/or MotoX for details), you can force the phone to 3G only OR 2G only......

having the phone in 2G only will help battery tremendously. BUT you lose out on the higher speed data, as well better call quality/clarity.

Hello. V3xx newbie here. I have a Cingular branded phone that has a battery life of about 3/4 of a day. When I first got it, it worked for a full day, but after doing some mods using P2KC, the battery life faded. I don't use data so revising to 2G may help me, but I don't see an option to revise my phone to 2G only. Can anyone suggest how to do this? Thanks.

Yes you can lock to GSM only, its in the network menu, network setup i think. Just make sure you performed all the network menu edits.

I never though the battery on the v3xx was bad or anything, but i've mostly been on GSM only.

With my V3xx locked on the 3G network, I get about three days out of a charge. This is with perhaps two or three short calls per day. However, longer or more frequent calls on the phone seem to eat up the battery charge fast, requiring an almost daily charge. Also, the battery charge seems to suffer when the phone is having trouble getting a signal.

I don't listen to music on the phone (didn't know you could), and my phone is always on.

Overall, I do not consider battery life to be a significant issue.

Thanks for the replies.

When I first got the phone, I got close to two days out of it. Then the phone life dropped off drastically. Yesterday, I made one short call. By the end of the day, the battery life was completely depleted. I don't know if it's a network issue or if I need to try a different flash version. Flashing is a last resort. The only other thing I can think of is that I installed a micro sd card to hold my music. Does anyone know if a sd card can deplete a phone? I doubt it, but it's worth asking.

I have an SD card, and it doesn't affect the battery life on my phone. The following site explains how to enable network selection so that the phone will only use 2G:

I made another post a few days ago about how I have been unable to get the network selection to show up using the edits on that site. I am using the AT&T version of the v3xx. The available networks menu shows up, but there is no menu option to select the band. Hopefully I will get some time to start over and try again soon. As for my battery experience, it's not too bad. However, keep in mind that I do not use this phone as a primary communication source. It does a lot of sitting around. But it's not as bad as I was thinking it would be. It would probably be better if the damm thing would stop switching to 2G in the middle of the call, and making me power on/off to get back to 3G.

OP, make sure you are calibrating your battery every few months. Let it go completely dead and then charge it fully without interruption. Make sure Bluetooth is turned off, too.

After looking at everything I did to the phone and still not figuring out why the battery wouldn't stay charged, I decided to write off the battery issue and research why my camera and video camera stopped working. Turns out I deleted the mme_imager file in error, which is the file that allows the camera and video camera to work. I reinstalled the file and both work fine.

How's this pertain to this topic? Since reinstalling that missing file, my battery life has improved to the levels others in this topic have said they get. I am now starting my third day since a full charge with three battery bars lit. I don't know how or if they are interrelated, but it seems both of my problems were caused by the same issue.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and input.
