Has anyone nuked a windows mobile phone ala..

MDA
Dash
SDA
others..

while updating / firmware etc. or other things.

I did that once to the pre-MDA pocket PC I had. I am just curious if people had experiences doing the same?

I've only microwaved my v635 before putting a new monsterpack on it, never a smartphone, the motorola lived but it scared the crap out of me when I was doing it

What?
Nuking? What the hell is that?

If you mean flashing my phone. Yes, I have changed ROM here and there. Currently running WM6, never had any problems.

You are running WM6 on which device?

When I meant nuking.. i meant trying to do some wierd firmware / hack thing and essentially leaving the phone useless.

I did that to a pocket pc and to a samsung who's firmware we were trying to hack. I am wondering who / how many people have had such bad experiences?

Ah, you meant to "brick" your phone. Yeah, I have read of a few people who have done that. Generally, it is user error. Someone will not read the instructions on how to do it and well, there goes an expensive phone.

I am running WM6 on my Hermes, otherwise known as the TyTN.

How do you find WM6 compared to WM5?

Can you point me to some of those? I want to archive them so that I do not DO THEM.. when I start some firmware HACKING of some new WM5 based machines.

I find WM6 as a step up. The phone runs faster --by a bit-- more stable and there is better support for HTML emails, as well PIE feels a bit faster too.

But it really an evolutionary step up, not revolutionary.
Also it includes a Windows update icon for future updates and if you like to tether the new application is more "turn on and forget it" then before where you had to install a driver on your laptop\computer. Now you just turn on, plug your phone via USB and you are surfing. No dialing required anymore.

Not that I do a lot of MS-Office work on my phone but at least you can now edit files with ease, instead of before where out of the box you could only view them.

Esthetically is better as well however, I am not as interested in the look as I am in the functionality.

Where you can find them? Try XDA-Developers. Although they do not have WM6 for all phones though.

Thanks Ago. I did look at XDA forums. Lots of guidance on things one should do and not do.
