there's like 4 names listed... i'm not sure which is the proper one.

i'm hunting around for a smallish pda gsm phone so that i can get an unlocked version and use it with my cingular account.

i tried searching for this phone on ebay and didn't find any... am wondering if i'm searching for the wrong phone.

anyone know how reception is on this device? feedback specifically on cingular would be great, but RF ability in general would be just as appreciated.

i have an SE w810 now and am quite pleased with the reception i get with it, but find myself needing some more robust pda features. this particular device got awesome reviews on phonescoop, but only 7 people actually reviewed it, so i'm a little leary of the high marks.

what i'm looking for, basically, is a pda type phone that is small, gets great reception, and has a robust calendaring feature (with easy syncing ability with programs like outlook and groupwise). any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks for the info!

Look at:
HTC Artemis
HTC Gene
HTC Love
i-mate PDA-L
i-mate JAM and JAMin

If you prefer a Blackberry-style device, look at:
HTC Excalibur (T-mobile Dash in the USA)
(Stay away from the i-mate Jaq3)

For more of a phone-first device:
i-mate SP5
i-mate SPL

If you can wait, lighter and better phones are being released in the next 2-3 months.

thanks a ton for the advice!!

i really like that sp5. that's more of what i'm looking for. you're right, phone first, but with a robust calendaring ability.

i can't seem to find anything on the spl though. it's not on phone scoop. do you know what the difference is between it and the sp5? ebay doesn't have many of either one, but of what they do have listed, the spl is way more expensive than the sp5.

is the SDA (sp5m) the same phone as the sp5, but with a different case (essentially), or are they completely different phones with different features? they definitely look different, but i can't seem to find specs on the sp5... only the SDA (sp5m).

Look at what's available at pdaplaza.ca

They have a pretty good mix of Windows Mobile devices, from several of the major manufacturers (e.g., HTC, i-mate, eTen, and Asus). I've never dealt with them personally, but they have a pretty good rep, and they advertise on HoFo!

They can probably give you a fair review and comparison of the choices that best meet your needs and desires. If you don;t want to buy a new device from them, and instead want something on eBay, you'll still find their website valuable.
