Wi-Fi on 8525 - question...

I'm having a hard time with forcing a wi-fi connection on my 8525.
I'm in a coffee shop and getting like 5 or 6 separate wi-fi signals. It can't seem to lock onto a particular and I don't know how to force it to. When I go into Settings>Connections>Network Cards>Wireless I can see all the networks but when I click and hold one to connect it just keeps jumping from one to another not establishing a connection. Is there a way to force a single connection? I try to remove some of the unwanted networks but they just keep popping back up.
When there's only a single connection or one that's really stronger than the others, no problem it connects in a matter of seconds (like at my office for example).
Any advice on forcing or locking onto a particular wi-fi network when there's many around? (all free ones).
thnx
peace

So what you are saying is that your phone connects to your work wifi without you even telling it of its existence, ever?

No it tells me. The point is it finds my work wi-fi and connects no problem. While in coffee with a bunch of free wi-fi signals available, it can't seem to lock onto a particular one (and ask me if I want to connect). It just sits there chugging away (the animated wi-fi icon up in the titlebar doing its thing).

I have a feeling that somewhere along the line you told your phone (either by giving it a name) or by telling it to connect of the existence of this hotspot.
For example, I have access to my friend's WiFi at his place. He lives in a building and as such is littered with hotspot, however my phone just connects to his. Why? Because I told it in the past.
If I got down the street, since I have not told it to connect, the phone tells ME that there are networks to which I could connect if I wanted to. This is assuming of course that they are all locked down. Mind you this is a settings issue, since I told the phone to act that way.
So all and all I would suggest that you look at your WiFi settings for your answer.

you cant select which network to connect to? try tapping and holding down on the network you want to connect to. does it give you any options?

Gives the option of "Connect" or (but not always, sometimes greyed out) "Remove Settings". Didn't seem to help.
And I think I know what Ago Vino is saying. I think the issue I was having was more than just the settings, I think the one wi-fi network I was trying to connect, was having issues, and going in and out, not having a constant signal. After I had sent the above post, others in this coffee shop were also having problems with wi-fi connections on their laptops.
When I go back next time, I'll see if the situation repeats itself, assuming their network is working properly.
thnx
