z525a- Seem Edit or "Unbrand"?

Hi all.
Which process do you go with to mod your Cingular SE z525a? I have seem edited using bitPM on a CDMA phone, but not sure about a GSM phone. When I seem edit/ or unbrand what do you loose, and what do you gain. I know what you can mod with a seem edit, but not sure it will work with my Cingular phone. Any help is great . . .
