Hey guys, new to the forum, i just got the nokia 5300 from rogers and i have some questions about things i cant figure out in the manual and by myself, your help would be very appreciated.
1. On the top left corner of the screen it says rogers, and i can't seem to find out how i could change that to my name, is that even possible?
2. The dedicated keys for the music player don't seem to work, when i press play the radio will come on instead of the music player, and the right and left keys don't even change the radio chanel. Is that normal?
3. Is there anyway to play music on the phone and go to the menu at the same time and brows the menu or watever?
4. How do you apply a theme, can anyone explain? and where could i find theme?
5. How would i put videos from my computer on it, i say the video program on the software CD is came with but the program only seems to play videos.
6. Can i use my own mp3's as a ringtone, i think there is a way to do this, but every time i'll go to the song and options and try to chose use song is says "file too large" is there a way i can convert my mp3s to ringtone format, if so could you give me the program name that could do that?
7. I used a video that i took has my screen saver, but is there anyway to make it full screen, because during the screen saver playback theres white on top and at the bottom.
Well thats all the questions I can currently think of, if anyone knows the answer to any of theme, it would be very appreciated, thx guys

I don't know if you can change the provider's Name on the Screen. I haven't seen anything on my phone that might allow me to do this I have the same phone but from T-Mobile.
If your keys you press are starting up something else then something might be wrong with your phone. When you press play and are using the Music Player the music should start nothing else. You might want to try restarting the phone it might get everything back to normal.
Like I said I have the Nokia 5300 from T-Mobile when I'm listening to Music I can browse other Menu's view photo's and text etc. The Music only stops when I recieve a call or want to take a picture/video using the camera.
Applying themes is easy. I go to Zedge(dot)net as in(.). Simply register for FREE then browse themes under the phone model in your case Nokia 5300 you can view many themes pick the one(s) you like then download them only takes a few seconds. Then connect your phone to your PC then simply drag and drop to the Images or video folder in your phone.
Putting video's from your computer you might have to convert the video files to 3GP you can do that by going to Media-Convert (dot) com I think that's the URL but you can search Media Convert on google to find the site. Another member on the Forum told me about this website. I also had Video's on my computer but when I transfered them to the phone they wouldn't play. I had to convert the files to 3GP which is what this phone will play it's FREE and easy to do this. Once you do this the video's will play on your phone.
You can use your MP3 songs as ringtones. I have no problem doing this to my MP3 songs then putting them as ringtones but since you say the files are too large use the Media Convert website and you can convert the files to a smaller size and it should work this way.
I hope this helps.

try opening the music player, the phone should then say media controls now control music player, then they should work for music. if you open radio, then it should control the radio. you should be able to play music and do other stuff if you use the MUSIC player, not media player.

Hey. To answer your questions in order:
1. No. That is always there, and you can't change it.
2. The Rogers music player is different from the T-mobile one. From reading the other posts in this thread, it almost looks as if T-mobile didn't add their own music player and kept Nokia's. The only way we could do that is to unbrand the phone and get the original music player back.
3. The answer is in number 2. Rogers blocked that feature too.
4. The first poster answered it accurately. There are other sites as well. Look around the forum and you'll find more sites.
5. Again, drag and drop into the video folder on your memory card. Same as number 4.
6. Rogers blocked that. The only way, besides unbranding, to do it is make your mp3s into wmas. Look for a program called Audacity. It'll convert your mp3s into wavs. Then use a program called imtoo audio converter to change your wavs into wmas. This worked like a charm for me.
7. Someone else will have to answer this one. I wouldn't think so, but that's just me.
I hope this can help you.
Have fun.

1.for questions one about the name, i just took profile1 and renamed it and put my name, thats good enough for me, i just really wanted my name one the screen.
2. Yea i think thats what they did, man rogers really pisses me off, why would they sell a phone is they cant even use all the buttons, thats really retarded. I cant even multi task while listening to music and the sound is WAYYYY lower then normal, or then the nokia media player. Why would they do that?
4. Yea i figured that out a while back, thx tho, this is a pretty good site also ... www5.ownskin.com
5. It also has to be converted to .3gp
6. I tried that, some work, but some songs say "cannot be set has ring tone", i hate rogers now, used to think they were a good company, but there *******s. PS.-try converting them into AAC quality is wayyy better
Thx everyone for the help, and who ever replied... i just wish someone would find a way to unbranded it, that would really be sweet.
