Strange problem with phone book

A few days ago my V3 (unlocked, gsm, cingular, older model) started doing something very strange. When I try to access the phone book either with the down arrow or throught the menu, the phone directory flashes up on the screen for less than a second, and then dissapears. As the phone is a couple of years old, I am prepared to replace it, but I'd like to get my phone numbers off the phone, which is currently impossible, since I can't access the phone book to transfer all the number to the SIM.

any ideas??

Try connect your phone with MPT and backup your contacts from there.

You can always try to reflash the firmware, but backup your contacts first.
