This phone rocks

Suprised at how quick it is online, just a tad slower then my high speed DSL. Was looking at Blackberry 8800/Pearl, Blackjack etc, but after checking this phone after searching on here, no comparison. Blackjack and Treo are cool but buttons are so squished together, the pad on this phone is so easy to use and laid out well.

Looking foward to playing with this and upgrades, more for business/personal. Not a big phone either, I thought it was going to be bigger/bulkier then what I saw in pics.

have fun when the phone starts freezing up on you 579 times a day

no, but hope you enjoy, the BJ was more the fit for me going from the 8125 which is the same size as the 8525. Hope the size doesnt bother you after awhile like it did for me. I feel the Smartphone OS is more stable than PPC OS anyday of the week. I thought I would miss a touchscreen but not a big deal. I look foward to the next line of smartphones that come out this spring/summer

Enjoy though

I also feel that the Smartphone OS is more stable. Also, Smartphone versions of apllications seem slimmer, quicker, and more to the point then pocket pc apps. I a in aweas to why it crashes less and is faser, as it is the same OS with a different (but similar) shell.
I own an 8125 and was thinking of upgrading to an 8525 for the nicer processor, better keyboad arrangement, and 3G but I found a refurb BlackJack for only $130 and decided to get that insead as by the time 3G is launched in Minneapolis/St. Paul there will probably be a new generation of WM phones, the SmartPhone OS makes up for the slower processor, and it is very slim.
But the 8525 is nice, have fun with it!

I just can't decide, bb8800 or 8525. I know they are two different devices but still.

Does anyone notice that the 8525 cant keep up when you type fast? I miss characters all the time, not a problem when using my blackberry.

Other than that I love my 8525, very solid device.

.7, i get that with my BJ a lot of the time. Same with the 8125 when I had it. I clean out the system so my memory and storage is maxed as possible and it makes the typing faster a little smoother. Thats about all I came up with

I do and it still lags...so frustrating. I cant believe that a 400mhz processor cant handle my 20 wmp on that thing but my blackberry doesnt skip a beat.

I get the missing keystroke thing on my Treo 750 when I'm streaming XM or Sirius in the background, otherwise I haven't noticed it. But I can't type quite as fast on the 750 as I could the 8525.
I miss my 8525. It's and awesome device. It has such power to multitask like no other. I had Sirius streaming, Slingbox going, and web surfing and it actually did all 3 at the same time (not that this is has any practical application.) And using wifi (or 3G) for slingbox in landscape mode is great.
But my Treo 750 is much more practical for my needs.
Enjoy the 8525. It's really a nice device.

Try a couple things to further test this:
----------------------------------------

1. Soft Reset and Try typing as the first thing.
2. Check the Running Applications and see if you have this problem with a lot of applications in Mem or with none.
3. Run Task Manager and check and see if there is any application that is eating up a lot of memory/processing power. (Memory Leaks in some applications have also known to slow things a lot.)
4. Turn Bluetooth/WIFI off and check.

You should be able to find a few things about why it is typing slow after doing the above. My 8525 Does not miss a beat and is as fast as the BBs.

no issues with lagging in typing here-- it works great. i noticed it on the BJ in the in store demo unit, quite frequently as i typed sampe things it missed a few char's. havent had it w/ the 8525 yet, been using it for just over a month.

Heres my thoughts on the two, i just dumped a 8700 for an 8525 in late Jan.

Overall im very happy with it.

8700 Pros:
- Great one-handed operation
- Stable

8700 Cons :
- Overly simply OS, not much tweaking / customization possible. You just take what RIM gives you out of the box.

8525 Pros:
- Love the touch screen
- 3G is insanely fast
- Wifi (although 3G is enough for me, i dont see myself using wifi that much)
- Camera/media player
- Larger screen
- Larger keyboard
- Highly customizable, lots of 3rd party software to make your phone and home screen appear just as you like, with just the right info for you.

8525 Cons:
- A bit on the bulky side.

Overall the 8525 is just a better phone and PDA to me. Im very happy with the switch. About the only thing the 8700 has over it is stability and one handed operation... the 8525 is mostly usable one-handed, especially with an app installed like SPB Mobile Shell. Almost never a need to whip out the stylus.

W.r.t the earlier posting of "it will freeze on you 500 times / day...". Not true. Dont go insane putting 30 CPU crunching apps on your today screen. Install all your apps on main mem (not storage card) and keep your today screen tidy. Trust only popular software, and do your homework. Freezes will occur with bad quality 3rd party apps added for the most part.

Let me know if you have any questions, id be happy to help.

the only thing i have to say about the 8525 is that i wish it is not a bulky

Posted by: Finance Man

Haha, I was surfing the net eating breakfast this morning, I love this thing. I don't think its bulky at all actually suprised at how small it was when I went to the store.

About the typing that was one of the main things I liked about the 8525, I'm already used to the keyboard, it's so well laid out and easy to use. Trying to type on the Treo, BB, Blackjack is no where near as easy and I don't have big hands lol.

I just got into my office and holy ****, I forgot about many wireless connections there were in my building. My partner and I have our own office, but the second I stepped into the building, thing started dinging like crazy, like 10 connections lol. Wi-Fi is strong on this unit.

Nothing wrong with the other phones I mentioned but I kept comparing them all, from specs, to feel, to use etc, kept comming back to the 8525
