I have a TREO 650 GSm Unlocked. i would like to get rid of this phone before it breaks.

i am looking into a 680 but first questions.

1.) Is the volume better on the 680 than the 650?
2.) Is there any major problems with it being unlocked?
3.) Tzones should work right?
4.) Should i wait or should get something else?

I really like PALM OS but i am thinking about going Windows but I HATE IT!!....

any suggestions would be great.

1.) can't tell ya
2.) none at all
3.) I have only t-zones (the cheap plan) and get full internet access on my unlocked 680 in California
4.) It's only a small upgrade from the 650... but the Palm OS is going nowhere so if you like it it will serve you well

Volume is about the same personally between the two....VolumeCare is about your best bet on fixing the volume issues

I have read that the volume on the 680 is significantly better than the 650 out of the box. I can tell you that volume for me has not been an issue at all with my 680 out of the box. In fact I often have to turn it down cuz its too F'n loud!

Check out the treocentral.com message boards for people talking about issues with unlocked 680's and tzones.

i actually think the treo 680's speaker phone is a lot better than my old treo 650's speaker phone..

Unlocked 680s work fine on T-Mobile. I use mine on Rogers primarily but my TMo ToGo SIM works in it fine, and so do T-Zones.

O2 UK SIMs work fine too.

Those are all I've tried.

Mine is a unlocked/unbranded from Palm and haven't had any problems on T-Mobile...haven't used the T-zones though cause I don't use the web so I couldn't say which way or the other. I use Volume Care just cause I purchased it way back when I had my 650 and installed it out of habit and put in my reg code. I do know I keep turning it down alot compared to the 650 which I usually had pretty high most of the time.

Palm OS is going nowhere? I really like it but like i would like windows mobile because it has more capability. but i know windows mobile is slow at times and starts to lag as you open programs.

don't get me wrong, I love palm os. The 680 is my 4th palm based device. However it is common knowledge that the current palm os can't advance much more. I am really happy with my palm non the less and don't have the need for true multitasking.

I'm kinda the same. I know Windows has more capacity...but I felt totally out of my comfort zone with the Blackjack (the OS, not the phone...) when I had it, and the Treo 750 when I played with a friends a month or so ago for an extended time. She loves it, but then she is a real techno-whiz and is in the IT business. For a newbie dork like me...it was awfully intimidating.

I like the Palm OS so far...because it's easy, fast and reliable.

I've been using a unlocked T680 (bought on Palms website) on T-Mobile with no problem with the $3.99 tzone. I'm able to access my offices outlook server and gmail with the phone. No problems. A couple of random phone freezing and 1 or 2 reboots and I use my phone a lot. I had some battery issues, But just applied the camera/battery usage patch that is on palms website and seems like I am not using any battery power now.

My heart aches to those who continue to contribute to Cingular's, T-Mobile's, etc... wealth.
Get it from Palm, unlocked & you can use every SIM card from every country there is. Plus, you actually own it.

Don't mind me, I have commitment/possession issues.

The 680 has a much better volume. I didn't bother to install Volumecare. Also, it is 100x more stable that the 650. And about the OS, what exactly can Windows Mobile do that Palm OS cannot, and don't tell me 'multitasking' because the Palm can run several apps simultaneously.
