New 8525 On Blue Account Question

I just purchased a new 8525 yesterday, but as you know my sim will not work unless I unlock it. What is the best method of unlocking it? I see two methods on eBay. The first is by sending the IMEI and having them return the unlock code. The second is purchasing the software and doing it yourself.

I already tried calling Cingular and they want me to fax them some information. After that, they will respond within 10 days. I don't have time for that because I want to test the phone for the full 30 days.

I also tried going to xda-developers, but it seems as if the site is shut down.

So, which is the easiest and best method without voiding the return warranty?

I also want to connect via 3G, but I will cross that bridge once the phone is unlocked.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I just checked it and it's up and running. Do you think I should go the IMEI route or do it myself? I just don't want to void the warranty.

I say..
Without voiding the warranty. Waiting for the unlock code from Cingular.
Voiding the warranty (probably). Unlocking it yourself, at least you'll be out having find with it in no time with your AT&T Wireless SIM card. You did mention that you don't have the time so unless you're willing to wait, you might as well unlock it yourself.

If you return it? I doubt they'll know it's unlocked.
If it's nothing obvious like liquid/physical damage then they won't know.

I just unlocked it via XDA. Thanks.

Data is also up and running via 3G.

So you bought an unlocked 8525, unlocked it and it had no problem getting 3G with an old ATT blue sim card? How fast is the 3G?

Where did you get your phone? Privately? Not from Cingular right?

I am interested in doing the same but am a bit worried I will not be able to get 3G with my sim...which is the main reason I would spring for the 8525 in the first place.

Thanks for the response

I got it from the Cingular store. Most of the time, I measured at 800+ kbps. This is with my blue sim. When you buy it, you have to change the network config.

So you paid full retail for a locked 8525 at a Cing. Store and then had to unlock it? Did you try the card before you unlocked it (some say the blackjack is being shipped by Cing. with ability to accept orange or att blue sims...thought it might be the case for the 8525 too).

How did you unlock the phone and what were the setting changes you made?

Were you able to get any discounts on the phone?

Thanks

Blu
