The Apple iSync Plugin Thread

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Paco

There are a number of phone-based Apple iSync plugin threads, so I thought I'd get a more generic one started, for a kind of one-stop shop for people looking for iSync plugins/information, etc., and of course for people to post links to their FREE plugins.

First some quick notes:
EDIT: Well, still trouble trying to host the plugin. Promise to get my K550 plugin up once it's resolved.

Posted by: Paco

Ok, finally got it working. Here's my contribution, a K550i plugin. Works with iSync 2.3, untested yet in 2.4.

SonyEricsson-K550.phoneplugin.zip

Posted by: Tehy

I hope that there would be plugin for M600i :/

Posted by: nickscupofwords

the m600 is a UIQ phone meaning that it is not going to be that easy to use w/ iSync. There is more technical information at http://mobile.feisar.com/uiq3.html.

Thanks Paco! This is great. It works for me in isync 2.4
The only issue is I receive a message that the sync has failed at the end, however all sync functions appear to have worked. strange.

anyway, thanks much for the contribution!

I'm currently looking for a w850i plugin if anyways has one. I found a few, but they are like $15. I'm considering buying it, if I do I'll host it up here.

Posted by: Paco

I've hacked something together. Give it a try. You can download it W850 Plugin . It definitely won't work with USB syncing, as I didn't have the vendor and model ID codes, but it could work with Bluetooth. Please let me know if it works.

What does the failed message say? There are many possibilities. Are you trying to sync more calendar items than your phone can handle? The message should hopefully give some indication of what type of failure it is.

I am using it with iSync 2.4 and my K550 and not getting any failure messages.

I'm installing it now, I'll let you know how it is. I have a folder titled Phones in my library, so I'm going to try that, and then making a phoneplugin folder.

Jesus you're a genius!!! Works with 2.4 (thats what I'm using). It didn't work in the /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Phone directory, however I made a /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/PhonePlugins folder and it worked.

Thanks again!!!!!

Posted by: filobot

Here is the message that I get.

"Connection to the phone failed.
Please make sure that your phone is turned on. If this error occurs again, please restart your phone.
Device "k550i" synchronization failed"

So, it looks like it thinks there isn't a connection, but the device is paired and the sync does in fact take place correctly. Any thoughts?

This works perfect with the K550i and iSync. Yes it's 3 bucks but well worth it...

Glad it worked. And yes, the correct directory is " /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/PhonePlugins". Hope the phone graphic looks ok. Like I said, I kind of threw it together quickly for ya

Humm, definitely strange. I've tried the plugin I created on three different macs, and it works on all of them, so it might be something on your end. You could try deleting the pairing on both the phone and the computer, and then re-pair to see if it works. To delete the pairing on the Mac, go to the Bluetooth Preference Pane, click the phone name listing and hit delete. Then also delete it from the phone. Restart the mac, (and for good measure, restart the phone too) and then re-pair.

Posted by: filobot

ack! I'm such an idiot. The message I was receiving was for a different profile! I thought that since I had selected the k550i prior to hitting the sync 'button' that it was only going to try to sync that phone. I guess it was trying to sync all devices. So, alls well that ends well. Thank again for creating the plugin.

Posted by: EsteEncanto.com

The plugin seems to be working nicely, however I have found the following problem:

The phone is not syncing through the sync status in the menu bar UNLESS I open the iSync program. I dont think this is normal, is it?

This is my first bluetooth phone :S

Posted by: Paco

I believe in 10.4.x (is that the version of the Mac OS you are running?), the menubar icon is really only for syncing with .Mac. For 'regular' iSync syncing, yes, you do need to open the iSync application. That is normal.

That is correct, you need to actually open iSync to sync with the phone.

You are indeed a genius! And a very nice one at that!
I hoped that if I persisted in searching I'd find this plugin for free. I'd just had a replacement phone sent for my w800i (which worked fine with iSync) and they had run out of handsets, so they sent me the w850i, which as you know is not supported. So I had none of my 500 contacts in my phone for 4 days.

You have saved me having to get a new phone.

Thank you so much!!

Posted by: Paco

By request, I've created a Z610 plugin. As in previous plugins, I do not have the correct usb vendor ids, so I doubt it will work with USB. But it should be fine with Bluetooth. If it does not work, please let me know.

In case you want to know if your Sony Ericsson cell (or any other device) is *already* supported by Apple and iSync, you need only check the list here:

i downloaded the plug in for my k550i to my mac, but i dont know to do whith the file? I tried unzipping and opening the folders, but I dont know what to do with the content. I cant open the .plist files, it looks like I need a program to open them with? please help.

Posted by: Paco

Quick Install Steps:

1. Download plugin and unzip it.
2. Move entire unzipped folder ("SonyEricsson-K550.phoneplugin") in to /USER/Library/PhonePlugins/
2a. USER is your home folder name. So if your user name is 'tabita', it would be in /tabita/Library/PhonePlugins/
2b. If the folder PhonePlugins does not exist in your Library folder, just create it.
3. Delete any pairings you may have already tried on the phone and computer and repair. I recommend pairing from your mac.

Let me know if you have any problems.

My mac has no Bluetooth. Are there any ways to get working with USB cable? Thanks.

Posted by: mdwsta4

great thread! i was never able to get my old SE phones to sync because they were so new. i will admit that's one nice feature the iphone has. looking forward to syncing my k850 just as easily when it arrives.

Mac only. Syncs your contacts, calender, etc to your phone. Nice feature actually. And no, not available for Windoze.

Posted by: Paco

Sorry, don't know. Haven't yet upgraded to Leopard. Hoping to do that in the next week or so. I'll have to look into whether or not the plugin infrastructure has changed for iSync plugins.

EDIT: Searching the web a bit, I haven't yet found anything that says 2.x plugins won't work in 3.0. So if you are using Leopard, give it a try and see what happens. At the worst, it just won't work. As a side note, apparently in Leopard Apple removed all of the Bluetooth SMS & call functions from Address Book 4.1.

maybe an odd question, but do you have to connect your phone via USB to sync? can you not sync via BT?

Posted by: Heavy Fluid

You can sync via Bluetooth. Open up iSync > Devices > Add New Device

Posted by: Paco

I believe that with SE phones, Bluetooth with always work. With some SE phones, you can use USB.

yeah, i did that, but it wouldn't sync. kept coming up with errors. i was simply trying to transfer all my contacts and whatnot.

Posted by: Paco

What were the errors? You might try to reset the isync history, or fully unpair, then repair your phone with the computer.

Posted by: mdwsta4

i'll have to go back and check the actual error later. but it essentially said, 'could not sync device'. i cleared the history, then added the k790 (never used with isync anyway).

Posted by: Paco

I would fully un-pair, on both the phone and computer. Then re-pair, initiating from the computer.

odd, i went back to do it again and it worked fine. ah well. thanks

I had the same thing happen when I initially tried to sync my K790a. Tried it again, and it worked.

Posted by: Paco

The K850 plugin has been updated. Changes include a marginally better image, and increase to max length of the Title field and Info (notes) field.

i have a k850i and your plugin doen't work with isync 3.0
it says it isn't supported :sad2:

Unfortunately, I still do not have Leopard installed. But can you please confirm that the message says that the plugin is not supported, or that the phone is not supported?

I have done everything - I've bought a BT adapter (Dlink) - I have 10.4.10 and iSync 2.4. My mobilephone is a k550i. I paired with the computer, but when a the iSync is searching for it, it writes out: iSync can not connect to this device. Why? What's the problem?

Posted by: Paco

Need some more information. Can you confirm that the k550 plugin was put in the correct location? Did you pair from the computer (this is the prefered method)? Assuming you pair/paired from the computer, the setup wizard should give you a list of options to do with the phone. One of them should be iSync. Did that show up?

When isync is looking for a phone, on the bluetooth window says that the k850i is not supported.
Hope this help.

Posted by: Paco

This may or may not help.

Remove pairings on both computer and phone.
**Make sure the plugin is in the correct folder** - put it in the right place, and reboot if necessary.
Pair from the computer.
When the Bluetooth setup wizard launches, iSync should be one of the options in the list it will eventually show you. Is it?

I have copied the plugin into /pumafi/Library/PhonePlugins.
When I pair my mobile, i have only 2 options: Use with AddressBook and Use the phone's Internet...

Posted by: Paco

Ok, since I know the K550 works with iSync 2.4 (I was using that until I just recently got the K850), we just need to figure out where the problem is.

So your full phone plugin path should look like this:

/pumafi/Library/PhonePlugins/SonyEricsson-K550.phoneplugin

Is that how it looks on yours?

lolz, i was doing it wrong.
it works great i didnt know it had to go into the phoneplugin folder, i thought that had to go in the isync > show contents > etc.

Posted by: Paco

I finally had a chance to peek at iSync 3.0, and didn't see any reason why it should fail. Glad it's working for you.

Paco, you rock!!!

I used two of your plugins (for the K550i and K850i) with iSync 3.0 (on Leopard 10.5.2), and they work like a charm! You just made my day! Thanks!!!

In this thread, check post #26 for the download. Post #52 will show a picture of where things should go.

Remember to delete all pairings you may have already made between phone and computer prior to installing the plugin.

Let me know if you have any troubles.

Is there a Z750 plugin yet?

Posted by: Paco

Happy to throw something together for you.

I will need the VendorID and ProductID, which you can get by connecting the phone by USB and looking in System Profiler. Select the phone under USB section, and it should show you the above info. It'll help to make a good plugin.
