Turn Off Data Connection

I am visiting Mexico and do not want to get charged for data access but don’t mind getting calls. How do I disable just my data connection? I can turn it off manually but it will reconnect when my outlook checks for my email etc. I want an easy solution as I travel back and forth quite frequently. Any help is appreciated.

what phone/pda do you have .change the passcode, so that it can log on

O sorry i have an 8525. There has got to be an easier way to stop it form connecting than inputting a wrong password and that takes to long.

Wirelessly posted (Ngage: HTC-8100/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

just change the media net settings and delete a word or 2 from the wap.cingular part.

Cingular or whoever serves you cellur data could care less if you have successfully logged into your email server or not. You could be charged even more if your phone keeps retrying because of wrong password.

Of course, there are easy ways to turn off data connection so that your phone won't accidentally connect GPRS. There have been many threads about it (search for tips for 8125). I'm too lazy to post or repeat here.

Here is the way to do it:

I have been using this program primarily to force off GPRS when I want to use wifi, and it works wonderfully. Can't recommend it enough, IMHO it should be on every Hermes out there.

Are you using Exchange ActiveSync or a scheduled POP3 to check for e-mail? If it is EAS, I would just go into the option for the schedule and set it to sync Manually instead of "As items arrive". Then it won't sync automatically but you can do it yourself if you want.
