Best case for BlackJack?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

For those that have a BlackJack, did you buy a case for it?

If so, which one?

Posted by: map1978

I bought the OEM case from the Cingular store. I bought that one because it has a swivel clip. Its 29.99 here in the NYC area but bought mine in Miami for 19.99. Man I love that things are cheaper down there.

I got a "Body Glove" cell suit for the i607, got it from ebay for about 17bucks. not too many sellers with the "Body Glove" but its one of the best. all around tight fit, with a removable clip clear screen protector, side buttons and camera have perfect cutouts, and the thumbboard is not obstructed....

I prefer the samsung holster rather than a case for it. I tried the cingular branded leather case on my BJ but the clear plastic that protects the keypad causes me to press buttons i dont mean to when typing a text or email. I may have to try out the body glove one.

In my store we seems to sell twice as many clips/holsters than cases for the blackjack.

My favorite is a side-ways leather pouch with magnetic clip from eBay. It's very slim. It has white stitching (which I don't care for, but, it does distinguish it from the other cases on eBay). From the looks of it, this case should work fine with the extended battery (haven't tried it yet). Between the slimness of the Blackjack and the way this case is designed, I haven't had the problems of a button being accidentally pressed when I take the phone out of the case--- too many accidental answering of phone calls with other phones/caes.

http://cgi.ebay.com/for-SAMSUNG-BLA... QcmdZViewItem

I also have the plastic holster case from Samsung. Nice, easy/quick access to your phone. But, it does leave the phone a bit more vulnerable and it's possible for the phone to pop loose, if you don't take a some care snapping the phone back into the case.

I also tried Samsung's fitted leather case and didn't like it. The permanently attached belt clip was a pain to use (I prefer detachable belt clips for use with fitted cases that don't come off the phone). It's a decent case otherwise.

Sorry but here the link to the ebay for the "Body Glove" cell suit for the BJ i607

http://cgi.ebay.com/OEM-BODY-GLOVE-...1QQcmdZViewItem

again its the best that I've ever seen and used....

both of those cases are hid-eeee-ousss i mean its cool if you guys like them

Go with the OEM swivel...i dropped my BJ in the case and nothing happened to the phone. Isnt that what a case is supposed to do?

Posted by: osteez

I have the Samsung case w/ swivel clip :

I'm surprised Vaja isn't mentioned. Don't have one myself but its pretty well hyped. Expensive though.

I'd have to say I have dropped from 4' + atleast 7 times, 3 were in parking lots. only thing that happened was battery cover came off. 1 time put very very very small dents on one corner. All I have protecting mine is a PSP Screen Protector, nothing else. Cases are overrated be a man and use your pocket, if you are that worried about it Buy a Purse you girl

Posted by: netronin

The OEM Samsung holster seems to be the best for me.... easy to get in/out
and holds it securly in the holster. The device can be put in either face in or out.

now there's a sign of ignorance...just answer the question smartguy...some of us like cases because we dont wanna hold them in our pockets. The BJ and many other phones are notorious for getting dirt and dust behind the screen, ever with a "PSP screen protector" as you say. But hey, maybe I can get my girlfriend to give you one of her purses just for you

hahaha, i agree other then fact, i dont like to keep phones in my pockets no matter how slim or small. its extra bulk in pocket and not always room if you have other stuff in pockets and gets scratched up that way, though i guess that is contradictory that i care about scratches from being in pockets when like you i have dropped all my phones plenty of times in parking lots also and batter cover pops off and all that and you get a little dents on the side sometimes.

its funny cus i see this ppl with $10 phones with this huge ugly bulky leather pouch on it with the horrible blurry plastic over part they think they can see and they keep it in mint condition for 5 years or more and then the phone is worth nothing anyway even though they kept it in mint condition.

i let my phones get beat up so after they a year old i have more reason to justify getting a new one. problem is then if i ever do sell them which is rare i take the trouble to sell any actually on ebay, they are a little dinged up. as you can see i list my phones for sale below. but not really try that hard to sell them, usually if someone i know or friend wants one i give them for a cheap price. not that i shouldn't put a little more effort into selling these others.

but if you want to buy one dont worry, i always got at least the holster case for them and most are in good shape, only some have slightest comsmetic little ding or scratch just in the casing which gives it more ch aracter and never the screen, heh.

anyway you are a girl cus you put screen protector on your bj, its not a touchscreen so why does it need a screen protector thats for ppc phones that are touch and for nintendo ds, not psp, heheh.

Posted by: Quatre

you guys get these gay body glove cases just for your bj. thats so 80's and dorky.

Posted by: Quatre

alright i found a bunch of holsters cases, so i figured i'd share my finds.

i'm just looking for a regular basic holster with clip and already got the samsung oem one once and it broke so not going to get same thing again.

i found a couple on amazon after searching there cus i have a $25 gift cert for there but none of the ones on there are that much and dont know if you can later use the remaining balance, if i'll remember if its that worth it. plus amazon might not take it for purchase from some merchants, some they do but usually its only something amazon selling directly.

anyway, i've gotten a couple things from seidio.com before namely a holster for my xv6700 which came with a gay leather pouch (at least it came with something unlike cing 8525). The holster from seidio for the blackjack is of the same high quality with the felt or whatever inside that screen faces against to further protect it.

problem is the Seidio holster is $30
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.a...PROD&ProdID=683

For you pocket protector freaks they have what looks like prob the best out there super slim 1.2mm protection case in rubberized black, crystal clear, or hybrid of both which i think actually may be best cus the clear is on front is perfect while the black on back blends right in and when first looked at pic though there was nothing on back.

i almost would want to get one of these cus they high quality, look cool and thin plus will protect it without covering so much of it and looking lame if they had a clip as an option with them... or if they worked with the holster as well but though slim will prob make it just too big for holster.

anyway heres link to the page with blackjack holster and the 3 choices of protection cases
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.a...S&Category=1107

the all crystal clear case is 25 but the holster as i said and the other two cases are both 30 so again kind of expensive, but from ones i got from there are great quality plus great customer service (they once sent me extra screen protectors for my xv6700 just because there was no instructions with them or whatever and i messed one up though i actually got the idea from another guy who initially emailed them or whatever and they did it for him. i was later able to use same extra screen protectors for my cing 8525)

for a little cheaper i found this holster made by boxwave who are most known for screen protectors. it costs more then samsung oem one but maybe a little better though i'm not feeling the little slit for the speaker which doesnt seem like enough for an already bad bj speakerphone that doens't need to be muffled anymore.
its on amazon but heres the boxwave page with all the bj stuff including the holster
http://www.boxwave.com/products/eas...sories_2461.htm

looks like they have a clear sheild case too and then a silver one but prob not as good as seidio and basically same price, i dunno i'm not a boxwave fan and that holster looks bad as i said with the slit for speaker.

amazon has the bodyglove like ebay which seems almost half decent actually but still kind of lame and 80's and a little pouch and too much material etc.

then there is one by cellet.com just search for blackjack holsters on amazon to find it cus somehow i dont see it on cellet.com website. it almost looks good cus it allows the whole camera, mirror thing next to cam and speaker to be exposed. but it it has a tab to release off to one side like an antenna which i'm not loving and i just can't trust it especially from a company called cellet.
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images..._V42773596_.jpg

so i'm thinking of just getting the one from Seidio.com even though its expensive cus i know its good from the one i got for xv6700 which sadly doesnt' fit the 8525 which i've been just leaving it in the leather pouch that came with the 6700 cus 8525 fits in that which is fine for leaving around but not if i want to take anywhere actually clipped to waist of pants. so i'm thinking of getting the seidio holster for 8525 they now have at same time as bj for same shippping. i think i've asked them if they had holster for both bck when i got and before i ordered the samsung oem one for bj and they didn't but oh well.

only thing holding me back from the seidio bj holster
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.a...PROD&ProdID=683

is that it can only face inward, which is the prefered way for most times but sometimes i'd leave bj in the samsung oem holster but face out to use it and least speaker was exposed and camera so you could use those with it in case.

so thinking of that i'm not sure which holster to get now. i just dont think i can bring myself to get another of the same samsung oem one just for it to eventually break again.

hmm. "gay body glove cases" in your eyes i guess, I think the "holster" especially the "Nextel" plastic "look at me I have a cell phone", "getto show off", "Bump me and I'll pop out and hit the floor" type clips/holsters are very cheap looking. Every little gangster wanna be has them. Ohh and lets not forget about the "Horizontal" and "Leather pouches" 2007??? they are more the 80's...Cases, why even bother with a "silicon, plastic, or aluminum" case, why???

too bad the BJ does not have Push to Talk and it will be perfect for those "Holster/Clips"

--->:"beep - beep" can you hear me now???

Anyways I'll defend my "Body Glove case" does not look 80's, has a clip that is functional, you can remove the phone with the bodyglove on and leave the clip on your belt or if you wear a dress. You can also remove the whole clip/button from the case and just use the body glove as a "case" The cell suit is so tight there is no play in it, even with the extended battery and door. The "Screen protector" is very functional. put your greasy head to it and thats the only part that gets ugly, wipe it off and your done. The clear plastic only covers the screen and the top few buttons and not the keyboard at all. So the qwerty keyboard is exposed so you can type away without any problems. All side buttons/ports/thumb wheel have perfect cutouts for them and the camera and speaker in the back also has perfect cutouts.

But its all up to the consumer I just think the bodyglove is all around the best, easy access to the phone with the removable clip. protection and looks. But some may think all the clips/holsters are better looking easier to use etc it all up to the comsumer....

Posted by: Quatre

ehehe, ok actually after looking at it i admit the body glove case isnt' so bad and is probably actually semi good if thats what your looking for.

for me and others though its just too much and i dont need all that extra material wrapping around it.

I ended up getting the seidio.com holster for the bj as i got one before or another phone and know they are great quality and better then any other holster including the oem one. it was $30 though which is high fora holser but you can see why when you get it, though i do think it should be more like somewhere between 20 and $25

so yeah i can recommend the seidio holster, i'm happy with it and btw you can put the phone it face out as well for just using. it just doenst' maybe hold quite as secure when in but you dont want to walk around with screen facing out anyway.

I plan to keep my BJ in my pocket so I dont want it to be too bulky.
I kept my old phone in my pocket, dropped it once or twice, I had a few tiny dents but overall no problems.

I am concerned about the poster that said the BJ is known for getting dust under the screen. Most of the covers I've seen here have that area open for the looks of it so it seems like dust would still get in. In fact, the cover would prob trap more dust in between the cover and phone and push it into the phone since its not sealed.

Whats the best way to protect against dirt getting into the phone?

Posted by: thecableguy

Another vote for the body glove. I don't normally like the body glove cases, but this one seems very well designed for the phone. Nothing covers the alpha keypad or any of the side buttons. The screen has clear plastic over it, and the rest of the case is a very thin leather. Also, it comes with a belt clip, but the little stem that sticks out of the case for the belt clip can be removed if you don't use the clip.

Overall, I probably paid too much for it at best buy, but it's a pretty nice case, considering.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

gel glove I see on the AT&T site covers the keypad I think. seems like it would be hard to type.

I THINK the only way to keep dust out is to completely seal the phone. I bet dust gets in through the keyboard buttons since that is where the biggest holes are and you push down on it all the time.

I THINK any cover or glove has some holes in it so dirt will make it in and get trapped in there and eventually get pushed into the phone.

I do like the type that stretch over the sides out the the rest because it seems to be the thinnest while providing some protection from drops. But I think the rubbery surface of the glove would make it hard to slide into my pocket.

I see these varieties on ebay:

http://img.igonemobile.com/img/?cmd...l/I607SCCLR.jpg

I also remember one where the soft buttons, send, end buttons are covered up but there is a hole cut out for the NAV ring.
I've ready about people complaining about the nav ring being too low making it easy to hit the other buttons.
Maybe this kind of cover would help that.

This is what I would get:

That may work very well for you, but I was looking for some assistance in finding a cover for myself. I plan to keep my BJ in my pocket so I dont want it to be too bulky and would like to minimize additional size and weight. One of the main reasons I chose the BJ is because it is smaller and thinner so it is more portable. Adding a giant cover completely negates that advantage. I'm just looking for something to protect against drops/nicks. I think the thin rubber/silicone/gel ones can provide adequete protection. The main difference I see is in the configuration of the cutouts. some cover up some controls, some do not, so I'd like to know if anyone around here have tried any of these and can provide some opinions on covers of that form.

I understand your concern about bulk, but most of those cases do not protect the keyboard. That's my biggest gripe. I'm facing the same dilemma with my BB Curve and the last thing I want is for dust or anything else in my pocket damaging the keyboard or trackball. I'm currently using the case that came with my Ipod for my Curve and it does a great job of protecting it in my pocket.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

which case came with your ipod?

I was mainly focused on protecting from light drops.

I figured that unless it is sealed, I dont think you can protect against dust. Even with that pouch, I would thing that dust would get into the pouch eventually (like how dust can get in your pocket) and it would end up being the same. Do you find that it works for keeping dust out?

Posted by: tenorsaw

It's a small suede pouch. I think it definitely protects the Curve's trackball from dust. It also covers the keyboard. The Curve has that white back lit trackball and gray keyboard that looks like it would show dirt or scratch easily. The pouch that I'm currently using fits it perfectly.

Posted by: tenorsaw

Here's a perfect example of what I'm talking about:

http://www.case-mate.com/s.nl/it.A/...1&category=1912

Click on the picture to zoom in and look at the keyboard. This is case that I really wanted to get, but I don't want the same result like what's in the picture. They shouldn't even have posted that picture, at least not with that phone.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

I looked at the picture, whats the problem? that the keyboard isnt covered?

If you look at it closely, the keyboard is covered with scratches. Look at the space bar, for example.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

OH, I see. strange that they'd use that picture to try to sell their product.
Does the blackjack suffer from the same problem?

I've seen covers that cover everything but I figure it would make it much harder to type. Especially the upper section with the ring and softkeys.

I think this one would ruin the look of the phone. If I just used no case, I wonder how long the keyboard would last before the letters got rubbed off. If it can last a year for example, I'd rather just use no case. Then at least I'd get a year out of it while it still looks good rather than ruin the look of it now.

Maybe I can get a plastic flip cover or something for the phone. That would protect the keyboard without having to put on a bulky leather/silicon/etc cover.

I tried putting the Blackjack in the current Ipod pouch that I am using. It fit it nicely. It's just slightly taller than my Curve. As long as you are gentle with the phone, the letters probably won't rub off. The Blackjack that I used yesterday already has scratches on the keyboard and I bought it about a month ago for a family member.

Can you post a link to the ipod pouch? when I do a general search, I see alot of different ipod pouches.

I'm looking all over and can't find one. It came with my 30 gig iPod.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

ok I'll look around.

I didnt like the pouch idea because I want to beable to whip out the phone with one hand very quickily rather than fumble around with opening a pouch and pulling it out. Like if I'm driving and I need to pull the phone out of my pocket to answer the phone.

Do you ever have this problem pulling out the phone while using the pouch?

Krusell cases are probably the best one's I've owned. Completely protects my blackjack and there's an opening for the ring/okay button.

Honestly, that is the only problem I have with using the pouch. In addition, once it's out of the pouch it's unprotected.

Posted by: amizzlesmizzle

That Krussell case looks nice, I'll probably get it.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

looks interesting. I initially steared away from leather but these look pretty thin.

I'm confused about what the diff is between the different color labels they have.
like classic and cabriolet
