Motorola's v710 operating menu

i've been checking out my new v710 i got from verizon all over the internet. i've read that some of them have an operating menu and tell how to access it, but i can't get it to work. does anyone know how to access it?
ps: i've got a USB cord coming in the mail to rape it up. what programs do i need to find?
