Just Got 8800 for Cingular Today

I just got the blackberry 8800 from cingular today. I used to have the blackjack and was sick of WM5 slowness and freezing all the time. The reception sucked too. I switched to 8800 and so far I am not feeling happy about it. Maybe you guys can tell me how the calander works. On my blackjack it shows up on the homescreen when you want that. Is there a way I should set it up. Any suggestions. How much time should I give it until I send it back? Its a little bigger and heavier too. Should i have switched to the pearl instead? Very confused.

THanks

There are themes available that will show upcoming appointments on your home screen, you just need to find one that'll work for you.

If you go to mobile.blackberry.com with the browser on your BB, then you should be able to get to the download area. Look for the "Today" theme.

There are also carrier produced themes that display calendar information on your home screen. I don't know if they're out for the 8800 yet, but I imagine it's only a matter of time. Check the following link for information on how to load other carrier's themes on your device:

As well, under options-screen/keyboard there are hot key setups (at the bottom of the menu) I have selected my side convenience key for calender so its a 1 button get.

Different themes might help. There are also some third party apps that might do something more along the lines of what you're looking for. Personally, I just open the calendar app when I need it...

How long does Cingular give you? 30 days? However long it take you to feel that you gave it a fair chance.

Yeesh. If the weight difference really matters that much and you can deal with SureType I'd say yes. It's heavier but I wouldn't call it heavy.

If you disable "dial from home screen" under phone options, you can simply hit the L key from the home screen, which will bring up the calender.

I just made the switch from a windows device to the Cingular Red Pearl. Looked at the 8800 but did not need GPS. I just started using PocketDay for the Blackberry to replace the built in calendar. There is no app for Blackberries which will give you the amount of customization as Agenda One or Pocket Informant for windows based phones. The blackberries ship with one theme which will show a couple of appointments on the home screen. There are also some free ones, check Pinstack.com or blackberry forums. I am very happy with the Pearl and Blackberry OS. It took a few days to get used to Suretype. Almost two weeks and I am lockup free.
