has anyone tried a 4 GIG SD card with the 8525??

Posted by: MSHampton

I have yet to see a 4gig "micro"SD. I wish I could find one. My last phone used the regular SD and I did have a 4gig in it.

If you click the link and then go to the bottom of the page you can search for devices that support the card and the 8525 is listed. You have to search by carrier, in my case Cingular.

How do you know?

If you follow the links on SanDisk's site you'll see it does not support SDHC, only standard SD cards. They offer 2gb MicroSD's... and SanDisk will not produce a card higher than 2GB for standard SD as it is out of spec for the platform. Which is why they started working on the new platform of SDHC.

It is said that beyond 2gb the SD platform can become unstable and prome to data integrity issues. That isn't to say that 4gb SD(non-HC) cards do not work, but JADEC standards could not prove consistancy and quality at those levels and thus SD is only rated to 2gb even though greater than 2gb models do exist out there and work quite well in most cases.

Doesn't the 8525 use a miniSD?

when you do that, it clearly says at the top:

Maximum capacity for this device: May support up to 2GB
Please check with your device manufacturer for details.

please learn to read.

Posted by: odnerd

Well damn, I assumed it was the same as the 8125... I admit to my ignorance

...and I hate microSDs. I really wish more devises used a regular sized SD card

Posted by: ChInEsE ChIcKeN

i would say it is safe to use the 2gb at most.... anything more then that i dont think your phone would support the data entry

Posted by: jbunch73

yes it can be done. I have a 4 gig card in mine now. I had problems with it at first until I formated on my pc. I dont use it all the time. I have a 2 gig I use daily but put the 4 gig in for my movies.

Posted by: MacK

try filling up your 4gb card with data. see if your phone will be stable. i doubt it.

Posted by: jbunch73

Got 3.1 gig on it now. Is that close enough .

Posted by: MacK

thats rare!...what kind of brand is it and where did you get it? please share the wealth i would really like 4gb on my 8525!

Posted by: jbunch73

got it off ebay. 29.99 + 9.95 s&h. Its a generic 4 gig card no name brand printed. simply says 4GB and mini SD on front came with a SD Adapter and a nice storage case that come in real handy since I mostly use my 2GB.

here's a link if it helps you?

http://cgi.ebay.com/4GB-MINI-SD-133...1QQcmdZViewItem

of course there are other guys on ebay who have it as well but I bought my 2 gig from this guy. You might find it cheaper, So shop around first.

Posted by: MacK

ohh wait...i see your have an MDA. apparently all MDA (aka htc wizard) is compatible with 4GB miniSD cards.

on Cingular's 8525 (aka htc hermes) are a different story with microSD cards

Posted by: jbunch73

I have a friend with the 8525. I'll try it for you and let you know how it works.

good luck tryiing to fit a minisd into the 8525

Posted by: over2land

I've got an 8525, and have been dying to try a 4Gb card in it... if anyone finds where one can actually be purchased, PM me the details, and I'll be more than happy to be the guinea pig on this. I've got less than 100 Mb on my 2Gb card, and really can't/don't want to carry two (2)Gb cards around.

Posted by: ascalon

Any updates on this, not from idiots who keep trying to fit sd and mini sd cards into 8525's . And again, 8525 uses MICROOOOO SD.

Posted by: pr5owner

ugh you people

8525 = TyTN
TyTN = 2GB MicroSD WORKS!
TyTB = 4GB MicroSD WORKS! (xda developers have tested this even with WM6 experimental roms!, you do need a firmware update however for the sd driver to read a 4+ card)

LOL yes we all know that NOW...but back in march/april, there was no such thing....FYI last post was from april...hence the whole discussion about non working 4gb cards.

now with all new WM6 ROMs from XDA, your 8525 and tytn will suppose microSDHC

Posted by: capper

where is a good place to buy a 4GB card?

I've been off the tech scene since the first of the year, and I've been asking around as to what new updates there are relevant to the 8525, but geese, nobody wants to lend a hand . Where have all the helpful tech gurus gone? I hate leaving and then coming back to see big shifts.

Posted by: wratran

it will work with the wm6 rom from xda..but not with the oem wm6

hacked roms are always better anyways, hell even hack XP like tiny XP and beast XP are better than the real thing

same with OMEGA ATI drivers Vs release ATI drivers

Okay, I currently have a 2gb card, but my gf's mom is getting a free 4gb card w/ her new phone (chocolate), so now this thread is more interesting

So 4gb is only good on wm6 right now, right!?

Posted by: Turbo E

i found a seller on ebay. seeems to have good feedback but located in UK. works out to 90 CAD. it seems i could just as well buy 6GB worth of micro SD cards instead. i mean who needs 4 GB realisticly? 2 GB will hold 4 X 2 HR movies. unless of course u use your phone to play mp3's. still at this price point, i dont think its worth it even tho i want it really bad lol

Posted by: martythebrit

Just got the Sandisk 4GB MicroSDHC card, works just fine with my 8525 using the plain vanilla leaked AT&T WM6 Rom.

Posted by: cidewayz

u can use it but i think they said only 2 gb because they were still workin on the 4gb and theres even an 8 gb

Posted by: martythebrit

Not quite sure what you mean, but the whole 4GB is visible and usable on the phone.

Posted by: Turbo E

he means HTC didnt say it would work with 4 GB cards as they weren't available for consumers yet, and they may not have had one to test at launch.

why shoot yourself in the foot making claims you cant prove? they knew 2gb worked fine and stated it

Posted by: diento

I just bought a Kingston microSD 2Gb (came with a regular SD adapter) and the card is reading on my HTC 6800 (microSD); even reading on my treo with the supplied adapter (SD), but fails toi read through a SD card adapter to my PC's any thoughts about this? I want to upload movies to the card from my pc!
