I just bought the lg 8600, i can connect to it through bluesoleil the bluetooth dongle thingy and it says connected to LG cx8600 com5. Unfortunately i can't connect to it through bitpim, any ideas on what im doing wrong?

Posted by: tobeychris

Did you do the manual setup described in the tutorial? cause bitpim won't actually recognize the phone, you just tell is what you have and it works without the program really knowing what it's doing.

Posted by: goldpup

I put in manual settings LG vx8600 com5 and then pressed the find phone button but it said not detected, am i not supposed to press that?

Yeah don't tell it to find phone. Just click the + by the folder for the filesystem and it will read the filesystem of the phone, then you can drag and drop files into the phone folders and it will write it to the phone, then you can reboot the phone.

You can't "sync" anything from the phone with bitpim, you can only read and write to the phone system.

Nvm got it thanks

Too bad this is a Telus forum....

Posted by: xBagel

Okay so it's been a while since I've connected my vx8600 from telus to my computer, but today, when i decided to change my ringtones up a bit, bitmin no longer detects my cell phone as the vx8100, nor does my computer detect my cell phone at all. My phone comes up as an unrecognized device and my computer 'has malfunctioned, and widows does not recognize" my phone. Nothing has changed ( to my knowledge ) on my phone or on my computer regarding software, firmware, or drivers, so i'm unaware as to why my computer no longer recognizes it. Any help would be strongly appreciated..

Edit-
My computer is saying there are no drivers installed, I still have the drivers, when I attempt to reinstall the drivers for my phone through the winxp troubleshooter it says that the drivers i'm attempting to use aren't for my hardware, but it doesn't even recognize my hardware as anything.. bleh i'm so lost -_-;

Hey, i was just wondering if anyone made any progress with a new UI for the LG 8600 (Telus).

And also if anyone has a clearer explanation of how to get games on the phone, because the earlier method is far too complex for me lol

Thanks

There's no simple way to put games on. The tutorial I made is probably the easiest you can get. Basically you're trying to do something, that Telus puts a lot of effort into making you NOT do. They want you to buy games from them, making the free methods more complex.

And you can't change the UI. It's in the firmware. No go.

As a matter of fact, you can (sort of)

There's a java app called "mgmaps" which uses the GPS from the phone, you can overwrite the Telus Navigator App using Bitpim.

However, you'll have to cache the maps into the phone using bitpim, which is quite a hassle since it doesn't let you read maps from the microsd

Hi, i have a bluesoleil with bluetooth dongle, it works perfectly with my sony ericson z520a, but with my LG chocolate flip 8600 it does not work...when i search for devices it was show the LG choco but when i double click on it to see what services i can do on it, it freezes and says service discovery failed...

on my phone it says (under device discovery) gives 2 options, show for 60 seconds, or stay hidden. i find this really ridiculous...60 secs.

Does anyone know why my bluetooth is not working?

Posted by: Angelicaltom

um are you tryign to transfer pics/ringtones/contacts ect.
if you are you can bluetooth between the two phones.
Have you tried that.
just simply pair each phone to each other.
once paird and connected. you can go to the file and hit sent via bluetooth. the away the file goes.

Posted by: seifer699

im trying to hack it so i can use custom ringtones...will that still work?

if you had taken the time to read through the read you would've found a very thorough tutorial:
http://www.howardforums.com/showpos...6&postcount=170

works great. just know how to follow instructions to avoid bricking your phone.

on another note -- does anyone know how to get rid of the shutter sound when taking a picture (e.g. replacing/deleting some sound file or changing something in the filesystem)? it's bloody annoying.. i'm crossing my fingers that it's not in the firmware but it probably is

Anyone able to access the system menu yet? I've tried the VERIZON method (copy the paramtable1.fil, hex the third byte [00] to 20 ) and that doesn't work. I was going to try other ones... but I just don't want to brick the phone. Is there a way of getting it to work? I have a WAP proxy I set up.. I charge per use.. but hey... it works. I currently have 10 successful people using it.. So I just wanted to change the WAP settings. I know you can hex edit to your WAP proxy... but I'd rather just have access to the system menu. Speedy Replied would be greatly appreciated.

Listen everybody !
I was wondering how to put ringtones in my LG CX8600 ( form telus Quebec )
and i achieved taht but there was a DRM issue ... ****ing ****
but anyway
i found this nice tutorial on how to bypass the DRM issue
Dont be afraid with HEX editor ! I was but once i tried it ( it was easy as hell)

The Process -- FROM JTAGN613
=========

Step 1:
Using the BitPim Filesystem navigator, transfer your new ringtones to the folder:
/brew/16452/mds

Step 2:
Delete the file:
/dload/oma_ringtone.dat

Step 3:
Right-click in Bitpim and choose to reboot your phone.

Step 4:
Save the file below to your computer:
/dload/oma_ringtone.dat

Step 5:
(from here on, I will use hexidecimal numbers, since it best represents the data and addresses)
The oma_ringtone.dat contains binary records 0x114 (hex) bytes long, describing our
ringtones and their properties. In order to tell our phone that our new ringtones are indeed
DRM-approved, we need to modify two of these bytes. Use a hex editor to modify
oma_ringtone.dat. Starting at offset 0x0000, the first record extends to 0x0113. The
second record extends from 0x0114 to 0x0227, and so on. But in each case, the *offset*
from the beginning of a record to the bytes we need to change is the same.

The two DRM bytes to change are at offsets:
0x0003 = 0x04
0x0103 = 0x00
Change these to:
0x0003 = 0x00
0x0103 = 0x01

***ME*** at this point you should understand that 0x0003 is there (the value are already changed but you should see 04 instead of 00 .. change it to 00)

***ME*** exaclty the same for the 0x0103, you should see 00 but change it to 01)

Note, you must make this change for each record you wish to use as a ringtone. A handy
equation for finding the offsets:
[(RecNum * 0x0114) - 1] + Offset

The image below identifies the before and after changes.

Step 6:
Once the changes are made, overwrite the file:
/dload/oma_ringtone.dat

Step 7:
Right-click in Bitpim and reboot your phone.

Step 8:
Enjoy your new DRM enabled ringtones.

IT WAS A PLEASURE

No, for the last time, it's impossible because it's embedded into the firmware which we cannot get at.

The folder you found, "ms", stands for "my sounds" -- in other words, Music & Media --> My Albums --> Sound Album. Totally different.

I'm having a major block, my phone will not show up on my coputer when I use bluetooth, I just bought a d-link usb adaptor, it installed jsut fine, but no matter how many times I put the lg 8600 in discovery mode it will not show up, i have been trying for a couple hours now and I can't get anywhere... halp???

Posted by: iamgosu

using that HexEditing method, my oma_ringtones.dat file shows 0 bytes of information...so opening it with HexEditor reveals nothing
my phone doesn't have Tocatta on it, could that be the reason?

Posted by: boumboqc

Have you putted any songs in the mds folder ?
If you don'T your oma_ringtone will stay 0kb
After you put your song just reboot your phone and your oma_ringtone.dat should be higher than 0kb

Posted by: nollid

it might have already been mentioned but using phone zoo to make a mp3 ringtone is the easyest way but it is only limeted to thirty sec.

it works on my lg ax8600

Posted by: bagg_s

Ok, thanks so much for the tocatta method... (sorry im a n00b!) i can now access the file system and have almost successfully changed my ringer... but still having some issues.

When i try and change the tocatta file to my renamed "tocatta.mid" edited song, it doesnt work. It starts to send the file then i get the message "The phone is not responding while modifying the file system."

When i then try and play the file (even after repowering up my phone) nothing plays at all.

However, when i then try to change it back to the original tocatta file i saved, and it works, and plays normally again on my phone (the sh**ty little ringer i payed 50 cents for! haha)

Could i be doing something wrong here? I have cut down a song to under 30 seconds first trying with garage band (im on a mac) and then with audacity - then changing filetype to mid..... but still no luck... any suggestions???

Thanks everyone!

I have the same problem. Can anybody help please? I tried installing a USB driver from Verizon's website too but still can't get bitpim to recognize it. If I manually set bitpim to the 8600 I still can't get any data.

Too Add on about how to install custom games on the phone:

Follow the Instructions in this thread (if you skipped to the end, you'll have to go back and find it, how to replace the telus navigator) -- BTW Thanks to hackin_maniac for the method.

I used the New BitPM 1.0.7.2 Beta, Used a "Other CDMA Phone" connection to browse the file system. Bluetooth worked like a charm.

I found that I only needed to edit the contentinfo file, and didnt touch the executioninfo file. I also used the same method to overwrite the Email program and it worked.

Then I tested it by downloading MSN Messanger (freebie from telus, $.50 to download) overwrote it with a game, and moved it and it worked.

Next thing I tried, is I moved all these apps to the Game folder using the contentinfo file, and that worked great .. ** NOTE: Do not add or remove lines from this file, use a hex editor. If you need to remove charachters, do not add spaces, use the hex code "00" to make the little box, works great.

The next key thing I did is too add another game, since I moved the telus navigator, I figured I would be able to re-download it since it's not in the GPS Folder anymore, and yes, that worked!

Then I edited the contentinfo one more time, and of course, I now have a new game there!

I hope this helps some add more and more games to their phone, with little cost (of course you gotta pay data for the re-download of navigator)

ALSO:
If your wonder how to get the JAD files for JAR files, use this program:
JADMaker - http://www.softpedia.com/get/Intern.../JADMaker.shtml

~ Cheers!
