I have never used a Blackberry before. I bought a used 7250 for verizon. Does the screen ever turn off? the backlight does but all the icons stay there. it does after a while show a verizon screensaver....but never turns black. is this normal?

Yes it does. You can set a timeout for the backlight. Go into Options -> Screen/Keyboard.

ive got the backlight to timeout....but it leaves all the icons up still. im wondering if those ever turn off or if they stay on all the time. i have a friend that has a 8100 series through t-mobile with a pouch and when he puts it in the pouch the screen completely turns off. does the 7250 always have the screen on? even when the back lights is off?

Try putting a magnet near the bottom front of the phone. This turns the screen off. The pouches / holsters have a magnet built in to accomplish the same thing.

ahhh thanks....i ordered an oem belt clip today for it...hopefully it has the magnet in it...thanks.

The OEM holster will have the active sleep on it (a fancy way of saying magnet-in-pouch).

It's normal if you're not holstering the device. The 72XX's and 75XX's had a reflective screen that didn't need a backlight to be viewable so they behave differently than the newer models.
