2 BlackJack Annoyances

1) Vibration: I always thought vibration meant a DISCREET way of being notified...I guess Samsung believes otherwise. Vibration mode is practically useless.

2) Cursor: the cursor crawls along at turtle-icious speeds when I'm trying to get from one end of a text message to the other (or any text field, for that matter). You'd figure there'd be an option to speed this up, eh?

Wirelessly posted (HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125) WM6: SAMSUNG-SGH-I607/I607FG1 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; Smartphone; 320x240))

about the cursor, use the wheel on the right.
To go sideways, hold Fn and use the wheel.
That second problem is common to all wm smartphones.

make sure you stop your programs in the task manager too.. it slows you up bad if your apps are running in the background.

Vibrate works fine for me... there's 3 options in your Profiles... do you have it set to Vibrate, Vibrate and Ring, or Vibrate then Ring?

I think he meant that the vibrate mode on the bj is too loud.....

I've by no means had a vast collection of phones, but I've seen plenty. This ranks as one of the loudest, most obnoxious vibrations I've seen (and heard).

Any place that requires you to be courteous and silent, the vibration mode is useless. It draws to much attention. I have to put it on silent and check it frequently.

I've gotten over a lot of the others.

Ha. That is what I was thinking, along with the fact that I'd add:

no voice dialing
poor bluetooth implementation
poor java
poor battery life
Picsel Viewer integration that drives me nuts

Of course, there is plenty I like: landscape screen, decent keyboard, fast 3G, good call quality, sleek form factor, good build quality.

I just another BJ, and it should be on my doorstep tomorrow. I had one a month or so ago, but exchanged it for my Treo. But, I wanted a slimmer, more casual phone for weekend play...and the BJ fits the bill while still being a smartphone and keeping me in touch with my email and such. Plus, I want to give the WM5 OS another chance...

The major annoyance I remember though is, when I would go into "contacts" and press a specific letter-key to bring up a specific name beginning with that letter...every darned contact with that letter anywhere in their name would pop up, and I would have to scroll through 50-contacts to find the right one!! Has anyone found an easy fix for that, or has Samsung done any SW updates to fix it?

Thanks!!

Easy, just keep typing the person's name out letter by letter. I've found that after two or three keys will get you where you want...good thing it's a QWERTY, eh?

I actually enjoy this feature a lot for one simple reason: if you ever try to look up a contact that you're not sure of the name exactly, but know a few of the letters, it will display all the contacts with that.

So, in short, learn to love it. I did. And plus, this looks more like a feature than a bug. So don't plan on it getting fixed. In reality, there's nothing to fix.

That's exactly what I hated the most. I mean, don't you know the first letter of the name of the contact you want? If so, why not be able to hit THAT ONE LETTER KEY and have it bring up all the "A's" or "C's" or whatever so you can scroll down to the one you want? Why does it require more than one key being pressed? I have never seen a phone that has this function as complicated as the Blackjack. I guess that is the major annoyance I have...

I'm not sure I can "learn to love it". Maybe accept it...but not love it.

For flexibility. If you're a smartphone user, you live for flexibility. We don't like to be tied down to just THAT ONE LETTER KEY.

I guess I'm just one of those "Type-A" smartphone users who likes things laid out in a logical, intuitive, user-friendly way. I suppose that's one of the reasons I lean toward the Palm OS.

This little detail is certainly not enough to make me throw my hands up and quit. I look forward to playing with the BJ again soon (on my doorstep tomorrow!!) and having some "new toy" fun!

I've always loved the look-up feature. I have thousands of contacts. Great if you can't remember someone's last name. Or first name. Just start typing the name you remember and you get immediate results.

As for Palm OS. Well, yeah, it's great in a "walled garden" kind of way. It's like AOL for cell phones. I prefer an OS that lets a power user do greater things.
