Traveling to South Africa - can a SIM rental or prepaid provide 3G data?

I will be in Cape Town for three weeks.
I have an unlocked Nokia E61 I was going to take with me.
Is there a local SIM I can buy or rent that will permit me to surf the web at 3G speeds?
Thank you. I realize this is a European forum, but it seems to be the closest thing I can find, given that Vodafone has a South African presence.

Compare the prepaid carriers here and post to the appropriate forum there. You'll probably get better responses.

In theory yes. After battling for months I unlocked the sim in my Sony VGN SZ230P and have managed to connect to MTN. Intermittently. And so slowly that a carrier pigeon would be faster. Can't see Vodacom network at all. I am still trying to find out if my settings need changing or what the problem is.
