Mystery Icon

I have a customer who bought a Pearl from me come in to inquire about an icon that appeared in the top left of his screen. I checked all the documentation i could find on the phone but there was no description. The icon is a little caption bubble (like from newspaper comics) with a 1 next to it. I was hoping someone could inform me what this icon means and how we can remove it

its the blackberry messenger icon.

It means someone tried to use Blackberry messenger and contact them, you should see it in the blackberry messenger application.
