1 New VoiceMail Message

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just finished a two day roam on Sprint.

At one point I had nine voicemails, and it was wonderful to know that because my voicemail counter said 9.

When I am in Canada, my voicemail counter sticks at one, and one only.

I am just wondering if Bell will upgrade their system to identify how many voicemails one has?

Thanks!

I had this feature on my Rogers phone, and I enjoyed it...too bad Bell's system doesn't do this.

??? If I have two voicemails, my voicemail counter on my BB says 2... same thing on my Timeport... maybe some phones don't keep track of how many VM indicators they receive?

^^ There's a message count beside the VM icon? I don't think so. Not on Bell.

I swear to you it shows a count... shall I take a photo to show you?
If I send myself two voicemails... I see a two and an envelope for the two entries in the message box, and across from that I see the little voicemail icon with a "2" next to it...

Also, when the second message waiting indicator comes in, the entry in the message box says "Voicemail: 2, Faxmail: 0"

Shall I provide a picture?

Don't want to doubt you Frankie, but I've never seen it on Bell. Show us a pic...

Good morning all... As promised, picture...

This is what the main display looks like when I get two voicemails...
After I click on the two voicemail message items and clear the new messages, but before I call in and listen to them...The second is a picture of the actual message entry.

Hmmm. Very odd. This has never worked on any Bell phone or Blackberry I've ever used--I simply get the voicemail icon. Are you on a private enterprise VM system tied into BM? Or have you enabled something in VM that is not enabled by default?

No, I'm not on any private enterprise VM or even BES at the moment... just plain old BIS.

But: I do have Message Centre Pro with fax...

I specifically remember my Timeport also telling me how many voicemail messages were deposited when I would go into the message menu on it as well... even when I didn't have the fax feature.

Message Centre Pro must be what's doing it. Bell's standard or basic VM doesn't enable the message count feature.

Do they still offer this feature?

That doesn't make any sense... because I had regular message centre (the one that permitted a greeting) and it too indicated on my Timeports and Startacs, the number of messages waiting. Perhaps it's Message Centre Basic which doesn't support it?

I don't believe Bell still offers Message Centre Pro...

Well, I don't have "basic" VM (I've got the standard one), and I've not had that feature.

I've never owned the startacs or the timeport, but I suspect those devices just intuitively kept track of VM. The service you have, similar to Sprint and Rogers, actively sends the VM message count to your device. Just like the OP states.

I am glad i am not the only one....any bell reps with any thoughts?

Well my a640 obviously won't display how many messages I have because the message light is just an icon that can only be lit or not.

I don't think the startacs 'intuitively' kept track. If my phone were off and I'd turn it on, it'd say there were X voicemail messages on the "Messages" display. I think my ex-girlfriends analog startac didn't really tell her how many messages were waiting though - nor did my Nokia 6585...

Well, back when I had that lousy AV-8600, it would only show a message icon - no counter. But the message entry in the SMS mailbox would always increment and it looked just like the capture I sent with the date, time and numbers.

Oh well, whatever it is, it survived the voicemail upgrade - because I've had this "feature" for years...

Yah, but when you receive a voicemail, doesn't it put a phony item in your SMS inbox indicating the number of waiting voicemails? That's how my Audiovox 8600 worked. I should check my wifes a920 to see how hers works...

voicemail messaging is an option like an invisible "text message" that counts your messages by type (voice, text, fax) if you cannot recieve texts, it would not work.

and how do we add this to our account?

Posted by: Doo Dad

I have seen this when roaming on US carriers. I have even held off retrieving messages when I cross the boarder. Once back on BM the number of voice messages waiting disappears. I know my BB works this way. Don't recall before that.

Is it a feature that can be added?

Posted by: lcohen999

bump and enough to add 10 characters

Why not call them and ask if you can have the "Message Pro" bundle added rather than wasting time bumping threads?

Posted by: Badmana

I'll have to test mine when I get back but I believe what most of you guys are missing is the text message voice mail indicator. You can't add it to your account without already having the pro bundle (discontinued).

I have one account with it and one without it so I'll check it out tonight to see if that's what the issue is. I'm sure that's it though.

Just to add something, I'm in Red Lake which is the northern limit of TBTel's coverage. My Q is telling me how many voice mail messages I have, whereas in Bell Mobility areas all I receive is that there is a voice message waiting

Posted by: editmagazine

you have a feature called voicemail mesaging active on your profile.. thats why you have the message count.

Posted by: editmagazine

it used to be available for analog phones for notification but works well with digital phoens as well.. no charge for the feature but has to be requested.

do I just call CS and ask them to add that?

Posted by: editmagazine

try, however it may conflict with your current profile...doesnt hurt to ask

I thought "Voicemail Messaging" was the analog feature that beeped the number of messages you had in your box to you when you made a call... THAT i remember...

Posted by: Badmana

I don't know if CS will know what you're talking about. It'll depend on how long they have been with Bell.

I checked and yeah, it seems you need a special voice message feature to have the counter to work. I don't know whether it's ok for CS agents to add though.

And Message Centre Express will not accept the counter ability. You must have the 'full' message centre.

Posted by: frankie5string

Sounds like it has become "uncoupled" from Message Centre - because other than the brief period in 1999 when I had Message Center Express, I'm sure I've always had it...

Okay, then why would that feature not work when I'm in Bell Mobility native coverage areas?

Because the local serving switch doesn't pass along the message from the voicemail system... ?
