XV6700 will not sync!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just received my xv6700 from ebay today to replace my water-damaged RAZR. I am so far very impressed with everything, but I cannot get the damn thing to sync with my Dell e1505 laptop or my desktop using ActiveSync 4.5

My computers will act as a charger for the device but it will not recognize it as a new device to sync with. I have tried a soft reset and it says it found hardware while the phone boots but then says there was an error installing the new hardware.

Help?

I also uninstalled ActiveSync 4.5 and installed 4.2

Still not working!

Are you kidding me? No one has had this problem before?

Any input at all would help.

I'm having the same problem and could really use help figuring this one out. I found one thread where it gave a link to download a driver but was no longer available. Also, can anyone point me to the thread where the step by step instructions to flash the xv6700 from verison to cricket? I've tried to follow bits and pieces I've found but still haven't had success. Thanks.

Make sure active sync is activated on your device (Go to the wireless sync page then click settings then activesync and chose enable). Also try changing the usb port and restart the computer . then after you are at the desktop plug in the device and it should be recognized.

Ive been having the same issue with my 6700 on sprint. USB will recognize the device but it wont sync via usb. It will work fine via IR but USB will try for about a minute then error out with activesync 4.5.

I am really beginning to wonder if this is a hardware issue. I keep trying different things but I do not get any different results. Is there a way to update this phone without using USB. Maybe through IR or something? I just don't see why the phone will charge through USB to PC but it will not sync at all.

I am seriously considering selling this phone.

ACTUALLY i had the same prob at first but i restarted my computer and everything was fine after that, also if u have a firewall (i use panda) , it asked if i wanted to let the transmission thru, at first i hit no, and it didnt wk, then i hit accept and everything was great

I've restarted my PC 10+ times. I have all the updates. I have the windows firewall disabled on every machine I've tried.

Still nothing.

just a wild shot but have you tried plugging in the phone in when its turned off

also there is a setting in the phone that enables/disables advanced usb to pc functions start->settings->connections-usb to pc. try disabling that

Morning mvben06,

I had the same problem with this phone w/ AS not sync'ing! I thought my computer didn't like new phone. I spent hours trying and finally got it working with a simple driver update. I updated my USB Driver for my motherboard! I never thought that would make a difference, but it did!

I hope this works for you or it helps somebody else out!

In my experience, i have gotten the un-syncronizing between phone and PC, but i just keep trying, by restart phone and PC. Finally, i re-install the PC OS [windows], and it can syncronize till now.

Hope this is not too late to help. I was having same issue with my phone I received yesterday. For anyone who had an ActiveSync issue with the following sympton
(WinXP recognizing the phone but not unable to install hardware) then try this:
Disconnect and then reconnect phone to receive the hardware wizard. Select "No, not this time" at first screen.
At next screen select 2nd button "Install from a specific location". Click on the "Include this location in the search". Navigate to
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT ACTIVESYNC\DRIVERS. Click next and the phone should install successfully. Unconnect and reconnect the phone and ActiveSync should find it. If not go to File Connection Settings and click on Connect. Good Luck!

I upgraded the rom on my xv6700 before I unlocked it for Cricket. I had a hard time geting Activesync to connect. I had the same problem with my 8125 and my 8525.
I found a work around that works great. When you connect the mini usb make sure the phone is turned off. It will take just a few seconds and the phone will turn on by itself. The connection process will start.
Not sure if this will help but it worked on the past few PPC phones.

This cab file will switch your usb mode to Serial-USB
It actually works on any WM5 smartphone that does not come with a usb switch function

Its made by UT Starcom for 6700 but can be used on ANY WM5 device
http://www.utstar.com/pcd/downloads...SyncMode.sa.CAB

You can ota that link.
The info file is here

I downloaded that activesync file from utstarcom and it made my phone freeze on the startup screen. but i had no problems syncing with vista. I used a laptop with xp and it synced, when i installed the updated rom.

try this, put the phone in bootloader.
plug in your phone to a usb port. your phone should say USB on the top. see if you computer installs anything. Then make sure that active sync isn't running. then run a program called UNI_ExitBootloader. the phone will soft reset. then go into activesync on computer and allow usb connections.

Not sure if this will work, i can't really remember if my phone synced or not. i had to send it back to ebay store cause it wouldn't receive phone calls. so i can't test it.

Thank you! I've been trying for hours to get my new Cingular 8525 to ActiveSync over USB. I kept getting a USB Device Not Recognized message. Websearches on that were no help. Finally, I decided to search here for ActiveSync problems and found knightcaptains wonderful suggestion, which worked (although I did have to do a soft reset after making the settings change).

I tried to disable this and got a "failed to disable RNDIS to use Serial"
