Reminders don't go off unless I sync... wtf

When I set reminders in my phone, they no longer go off unless I sync the phone with my Outlook. Any ideas what could cause this or what info I can give to help?
It probably started doing it a month or so ago (possibly around the time I did the DST update, but it may just be coincidence.)
