Hey there folks,
anyone heard of Pantech?
What are people's thoughts on their product offerings, if so?
I heard of them recently and was surprised, as they described themselves as the second-largest handset manufacturer in Korea. I'm wondering if this is accurate or if this is some technicality (like maybe LG and Samsung make more handsets globally but Pantech has larger Korean domestic operations?) as I'd never really heard of them prior to this.

I like their GSM phones they make for outside the US market, also think they are well made phones, and inbetween samsung and LG when it comes to features. I just wish they did offer more higher end gsm phones, the ones like the pg-8000, pg-3600, etc are compareable to many other manufacters.

They recently teamed up with Helio to design its most anticipated device to date, the Helio 'Ocean'. Its getting rave previews all over the net, so maybe you should check out Helio when it drops.

Wait. So...you're asking people on a Pantech forum if they've ever heard of Pantech?
One reason you might not have heard of Pantech before now is because most of the handsets they have sold in the US in the past are rebranded. (For example, the "Verizon Wireless" brand handsets with the "PN" designation are made by Pantech.) That's changing - Pantech is selling more and more products under its own banner.
They're pretty much the most underrated cell phone company out there. One of their most popular models, the C3, is still the world's smallest camera flip phone, and the new handsets they announced at CTIA - the C150 and C510 in particular - look fantastic. (That's a bit ironic, because the C3, C150, and C510 are the low end of Pantech's AT&T line - the C3 and C150 are destined for GoPhone - but Pantech is perhaps best described as bringing high-end style to low-end phones.)

Well, in all fairness I *did* post this thread in 'other manufacturers' earlier, and then scrolled up to see that there was a Pantech-specific forum. Of course, since the thread would have looked silly in the Pantech forum, I didn't cut and paste a new one. One of the admins here must have moved the thread. Now I look silly instead.
Anyways, thanks alot for the info. regarding Pantech and Verizon, very interesting. I'm still curious about the claim of being second-largest manufacturer. Surely LG and Samsun are both bigger than Pantech for handset manufacturing?

I've heard that they are Korea's third largest manufacturer, behind Samsung and LG (respectively). I've never heard that they were second.
They should be, though. /pantech fanboy
