I've been doing some reading and apparently a lot of carriers have the manufacture setup their phones with an older 5.6 kbps transfer rate codec. This apparently reduces the signal strength and reduces the number of towers they have to install.

Would anyone happen to know if the Treo 650 has a full or half rate codec installed on it. The full rate is 13kbps and the half rate is 5.6 kbps. For the record, I am using an unlocked version directly from Palm and use Tmobile as my service provider.
