Blackjack cingular text message problems

Hello I have a samsung blackjack and whenever i send a text message to someone it comes through on their phone as a picture message. This happens on all carriers Cingular to Cingular cingular to tmobile cingular to verizon whatever they all go through as picture messages.
P.S. I am using Cingular and i bought the phone locked to cingular from ebay

nevermind stupid problem i was hitting send mms instead of send text message
