My v180 won't detect that it's open anymore

I have a V180 phone and the phone won't detect when it's open anymore. When I flip it open, all I see is a black screen. There is a little button near the hinge on the inside of the phone that I have to manually press to get the phone's screen to "turn on" once the cover is open. Is there any way to fix this? It gets annoying because when someone calls I can't answer it by flipping the phone open anymore, and pressing the button turns the screen on but usually ends up hanging up on the person.

theres a build-up of dirt underneath that sensor you just pushed.. take it to a service technician and have it cleaned or replace the sensor (keypad)

Paolo is correct. If I remember correctly, Motorola actually redesigned the keymat due to this issue. The simplest method is to clean the gold contacts on the board and the back of the contact patch on the keymay itself.

Would it be possible for me to do this myself?

blackcat,

Iirc, the updated keymat has adhesive arround the sensor pad now, right? Haven't opened up one of those phones in a while so I dont remember.

I am in the same boat. It has been a while since I have seen the modified keymat.

I think the issue was that the keymat would shift and misalign. The shape of the keymat was slight modified to prevent this. I do not remember if they added the adhesive to help keep it in place.

Special K,

The repair is something you can do yourself, but that depends on your skill level, tools access, etc.

OK, is there a guide out there to doing this?
