Need phone recommendation: Easy to use, good signal

I am not a Cingular customer so I don't know much about the phones they offer. I've been doing some research for my mother, trying to find just the right phone for her. She's not very technically savvy and needs something that is simple to use. She doesn't need any bells and whistles whatsoever and will only use the phone for phone calls and nothing else.

They live out in the country and don't have the best phone signal out there. So, primarily I need something that is known for getting good reception. She tried the razor a while back and it didn't get a good signal, so she returned it. She's currently using some old phone that is on its last leg and I need to get her an updated phone.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

If she can't get reception with a RAZR, she's most likely out of luck. The RAZR is Cingular's best RF performer across all markets.

i would say a 6010... best rf iv ever had... if you want somethin newer a 6030 is a little updated...

If she needs something cheap and simple, the Pantech C120 is a great choice. Easy to use, outstanding RF (probably better than my Sony even...), and great call quality.

seriously check it out

Is the V3xx a razor? Is it specifically the V3xx or is it any of the phones that start with V3? Sorry, I know thats probably a dumb question but I'm not familiar with Cingular's phones.

The V3xx is Moto's 3G RAZR. It can run the old GSM service (triband) or the new WCDMA 3G service (dual band).

This phone is a real signal hog. If it can't do it, i'd say she'll be spotty with any phone.

Oh, you might go with Sprint. Apparently they might release a little device that plugs into your broadband connection that is like a little Sprint tower repeater for your house. When you leave, it will automatically lock your phone to a real tower. Nice!

Look for a phone with an external antenna jack. A lot of times, Cingular will throw in an accessory or two with a new phone, and you can get an antenna.

Back when FAR Manor was a fringe area for reception, I stuck a mag-mount antenna on a ceiling vent & connected the cell phone when I needed to use it at the house. It made the difference between useless and clear reception.

Not to rain on your parade, but stating the V3 is the best RF performer?? Where do you get your information...Motorola? That is one of the WORST performing phones in OUR market (Boston). Nokia is clearly the best overall performing phone in the market (any market). Read Consumer Reports, CNET, etc...they all say the same thing. And from my 10+ years experience selling Cingular, I can tell you that the LEAST returned phones we sell are Nokia.

The BEST phone I have found over the last 4-5 years is hands-down the Nokia 6010. Hardly sold anymore, but if you can find one (PM me if you need one), GRAB IT! Plus, it is VERY SIMPLE to use. No camera, MP3 player, BT...nothing. Just a phone that makes clear phone calls.

If you can't get one, or want a flip phone, the LG CU-400 has been getting rave reviews on CNET and from our customers. The only downside is that if you live on the fringe of a 3G area, you will go through battery life like there is no tomorrow, and your reception will fade in and out. Best to get one if you are clearly within 3G range all the time.

Well, neither of these are very reliable for accurate information, based on my own experience.

That is true. However, most people want more than this phone offers.

Nokia 3595, hands down.
