So I just purchased it today and looking foward to do the housing swap. I've had the chance do do several phones for buddys that have cracked thier screen or scratched thier 8525's so i have some experience under my belt. I got a camera lens with ribbon available to install and all so it should be interesting once finished. I know there probably needs to be some software update when available but the black should look pretty sleek.

its OEM so it should be same as default

man i really want that... but i'm afraid to snap a ribbon cable or something =(

Dude, that black housing is friggin' hot. I'm such a whore for this crap, but I think I'm going to try my best to hold off for a bit. 53 bucks, shipping costs, and a risk of screwing up my Hermes is a lot to choke down just yet.

I dislike having a device that's visibly Cingular-branded, and would honestly be happy enough if I could come up with a way to take the "cingular" and "8525" logos off the front without marring the finish of the plastic (is it painted?). There's an instructable for doing it to a T-Mo branded Wizard, but I haven't seen one that accomodates the plastic of the 8525.

Even though they say OEM, i think they're NOT. They are pretty good quality almost close to OEM though.

That black case will only work on the 8525, it will NOT work on the TyTN without case modifications (for the 3G video calling button).

I'm just waiting for my new grey OEM case to arrive, and will put together a guide with pictures when it does.

who needs a 3G video calling button if you can just press the green talk button that will do the same thing? that 3G video call button is pretty useless. (you'll need a non cingular ROM that is)

the real reason why it WILL NOT work on the tytn because the front buttons are spaced out differently on the PCB board. however, cnn also sells both versions (8525 and tytn) of the button PCB for 5.99 so you can install which ever you like...given that you still need the find the front camera.

Yeah I went to show a co worker the item and it was missing. I got confirmation today my order had been shipped so hopefully things go smooth. It worried me a bit when i didnt see the item on the site. I even e-mailed dennis to make sure they sent out the black one but have not recieved a response back yet. I'll keep you guys posted when i get the housing and do the swap

Just so you guys are aware. I did receive a response from Denis Tam in regards to the housing being out ofn stock.

It is now "out of stock" and will be restock by next week.

Has anyone put together a good tutorial, other than the half-tutorial linked to on that Japanese blog? I don't want to jack up my Hermes, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to give in to temptation and buy one of these casings as soon as cnn.cn gets them back in stock.

Further, OP -- do you have any pictures of your Hermes with the new casing installed?

I just completed a full tutorial on taking the 8525 completely apart w/ about a dazon pics to go with it. I havent received the black housing as of yet but hope to get it today. I was contemplating on doing a tutorial on putting it back together cause I figured people would just reverse the steps. I will have pics of the final product once I put it together.

Im at work right now and told my wife to call once it comes in. I couldnt wait for her call so i called and she said it hadnt come yet. the mail came in but no case. Man I hate waiting. I'll post pics as soon as I get it in

No luck yet. I thought I would get it in yesterday, for sure today. I have not received it yet. I order stuff from Dennis all the time and usually never take this long. If I dont get it tomorrow then there gonna be a problem. It was shipped on a week ago monday so 2morrow would make it 10 days. So hopefully this time tomorrow I will be putting it together

i just got mine today....it looks awesome except:

1. i am missing one of the slider rails
2. tiny hairline scratch at the back.

i guess those 2 are ok....the scratch is barely visible and i can take the rails from the other phone?? or should i exchange it?

yeah you gotta use the rail from the original. U have 14 days to exchange with dennis at cnn.cn if your not completely satisfied. Like anyone is gonna send it back. Its to nice to have to wait another week for another housing, most people will just ignore any slight imperfections. Good luck with everyones swap. Hope my tutorial helps.
