Please help! I'm using a new i870. I can't get mobile gmail to work. When I try to log-in I get "Bad Request Error 400" every time. It seems all other web based applications work correctly. I see other i870 users have posted this error with Google with no response. I've tried to make contact with Nextel and Google with no response. Surly someone using this forum has experienced this problem.

Are you running off of a package plan for your internet service, or do you have an unlimited packet data plan? If your proxy is locked/blocked to only the sites Sprint/NEXTEL allows you to go to, you'd be screwed. The Mobile GMail Java app requires an unrestricted packet data account, much like the i930/i920 requires for usage. To test, see if you can access ANY old internet site off of your phone by using a URL prompt mechanism... browser, etc. IF you can access Microsoft.com, MSN.com, etc., you should be set, there is a problem with the program that's giving you the error... you'll need to contact Google. IF you can't access the above sites, you're going to need to call CS and have your data account upgraded.

JAVA and the internal browser access the net differently...

If your service is not provisioned for JAVA data, it won't work...

When you say "other web based apps" work do you mean JAVA apps such
as Opera Mini?

As far as the error report goes...
Can you access your Google account though Opera Mini?

Are you trying to access m.gmail.com with the phone's built-in browser? I had similar problems with my i560. I always chalked it up to having a WAP 1.0 browser on the phone, and gmail requiring WAP 2.0. I may not even be saying that correctly, but I always believed it to be a compatibility issue.

That said, I was able access the site using Opera Mini on the i560 (as well as it worked on that phone, that is).

You may also want to look at the Gmail Java app. You can get that from Nextel (through Download Apps) - albeit with an annoying prompt, from what I've heard - or you can find a link here in the forums to a version that is free of that annoyance.

I have access to any site. Mobile Yahoo mail works fine. I've used several search engines with no problem. The rest of Google features are fine.

I use to get that same error code when I used Opera Mini on my i580 to try to access my gmail account. Then I downloaded the Java gmail application off of this site and it works perfect now.

Wirelessly posted (D_Way's I870 : Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.1.7196/1662; en; U; ssr))

It's just a problem going thru the phones built in Browser. The Java App version works fine as well as going thru Opera on your phone. If you have an Unlimited Data Plan, you should really use the Java Gmail App. It's a lot better for checking your gmail.

I've tried the java application countless times. It doesn't work either. It will not accept the username and password that I've used for years. This is jacked up!

You may have already checked this, but make sure that you're using the proper input mode (i.e. Alpha, Word, Numeric, etc.), and that what you're typing isn't being auto-capitalized. This is particularly important with the password, as the characters you type are quickly replaced with asterisks.

Thanks for the thought. I am using the proper input mode. I would like to at least eliminate Nextel or Google as the issue but I'm starting to think that alone will be a big challenge.

you can dowlnoad the application for free from your phone, just go to download apps and search for the gmail application. It's free, and it works great. The other alternative is to get the opera mini browser on your phone and access gmail that way. Of course that will require an unlimited data plan as well.
