Hello Phone Gods!

I need HELP!!

Ok, so I have outlook hooked up to my exchange server. It is working fine EXCEPT, for the subfolders. I have them set up to sync and they are getting mail, but I get no notification that I have mail in those folder. The main outlook account gives me a notification but the others don’t. Is there anyway I can get them to give me a notification that I have new mail?

Thanks you are all the best!

Its not supported by the o/s, unfortunately. You will only get the notifications for the inbox itself. When you navigate to the folders view, you will see the number of new emails beside the sub-dir, but will not get those on the home screen. Maybe someone knows of a 3rd party solution, but I have never seen reference to any that will do what you want it to do.

Well Damn that sucks! I guess I might have to go back to the Pearl. I sure was starting to like this phone.

You should see from your home screen showing Email/MMS:x SMS:x VoiceMail:x as long as you setup push-mail with your mail account.

This work great for me.

All very true but it does not show or count a message on your HS that is in a sub-directory folder under the inbox. Many use Outlook's rules options to route msgs to sub-directories for managment of email purposes that directly sends the incoming msgs to the sub-directories and not the root/inbox.

It's not just with Exchange. I use server-side filters on an IMAP account and have noticed the same problem, you only get notifications for new messages in Inbox, not other folders. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix it either.

I think you need to do two thing:
1) When setup to sync with your desktop or lapton computer via ActiveSync, you need to define to include sub-directory.

2) Setup an pop mail account to retrieve your email normally goes to your Exchange Server. When ever mail comes in, both your Dash and Exchange Server will have a copy. As soon as you sync your Dash with your desktop or laptop email client, the copy in your pop account on your Dash will relocate automactically into the defined sub-directory of your Dash's Outlook Email folder.

I have been working with the above rules and it work beautifully without any problem. All of my incoming mails goes into the defined sub-directory as soon as I sync it with my laptop computer.

You are right in what you stated and that is absolutely how it works.

However, that is not what the OP was asking. He was asking if the new message count and notification of an unopened email that appears on the home screen (telling you that you have a new/unopened msg) could be set somehow to also count/show new/unopened messages in the synced sub-directories, which WM does not do. You will only see notification and a count of new messages that reside in the in box. Nothing is posted to the home screen (or added to the new msg count) for msgs in any of the subdirectories under the in box (even though they have been selected under the sync settings).

As I said earlier, my HS do show Email/MMS=x SMS=x Voicemail=x
See the attached photo.

You are still missing the point of the question. No one is disputing that there is a new message feature on the HS. It is what that number represents that is in question.

Where you see that email/mms count which has "1" listed in your screen shot, that "1" message is only referencing and counting the in box messages and does not count or show any new messages under the in box for those messages that go directly into the sub directories you have set up. In other words --- if the message doesn't get dropped/delivered directly into the in box, they dont' show up in the count.

That is good enough for me because you are working with a palm size unit and Dash is not specifically built for email like Blackberry. As long as it show how many unread message or mail, you could go into your mail folder to see it.

Beside, as soon as you sync with your desktop or lapton, those Unread mail from your desktop will apear as Unread in your Outlook folder or sub-directory.

I don't think you're seeing the point ...

The main messaging screen only displays the # of unread emails in the actual Inbox.
Mine shows ...
1 Text/Multimedia (#)
2 Outlook Email (#)
3 Yahoo! (#)
4 New E-mail Account

The (#) of messages next to '2 Outlook email' only represents new emails in the Inbox, but not any subfolders.

I have filters set-up to re-direct emails from certain individuals into subfolders underneath my email Inbox. When I get emails into these subfolders, I don't get notifications.

The only way to see them is to go into '2 Outlook email', then hit menu=>folders. This will display all of the subfolders with (#) of new messages next to the subfolder. But you don't get a notification of these new messages. I have to actually look at the subfolders throughout the day to make sure I don't miss any emails in the sub-folders.

I'm a recent convert to the Dash (with WM6) from a BB 8700. It worked fine on the BB 8700, but I need it to work on the Dash.

Use a BB because Dash is a Windows Mobile Smartphone. It is not a BB.
