Moto Q: Faulty Signal indicator...?

Ok, I got my Q, it works beautifully... except...
At home I have 0-1 bars of reception, but I have reeption...
at work I ahve "no service"...
here's the funny part...
At home, I get dumped to the 28.8kbps, at most 100kbps
at work, with "no service" I'm getting 200+ kbps (once I spiked to over 700kbps!) AND I placed voice calls without issue!
Does this mean my Q has a faulty signal strength measureing algorythum?
