New hires on Sales Floor no training?

I don't get it... we just got two new hires in Sunday that went through training in Atlanta and they are already on the sales floor. Honestly, they are ok but constantly have to ask questions and have no idea how to use OPUS, forgot to ask about credit checks sent out a customer with a non-working phone...etc. Do they not teach this stuff at training anymore? I have no clue how they can train someone in a few weeks on all these plans, phones...etc. I'm sure it seems a bit overwhelming for them but jeez. We used to do shadowing but not anymore. Throw them to the wolves is the new plan I guess.

I just finished training last week and i can tell you its pretty useless. We spent about 10 minutes on opus and only went over 3 phones(sync, blackjack and cu500). We didnt even look at rate plans but talked about prepaid for about 45 minutes. Today was my first day in store. Im just gonna follow people around for about a week until i get the system down.

This was my prediction couple years ago...slowly this industry will end...it will not be profitable to be working in wireless...We will all slowly be replaced by teens who are happy making minimum wage...after that everything will shift to the internet...and the USA will have the highest unemployment...so I guess no big surprise...Most of the knowledgeable reps leave...for new and better things...those that stay become centered on making their quotas and forget to be "human"...

I agree they just throw theys kids out here wit little to no training and expect them to have common knowledge on how to sell or talk to a customer. Thats why i left Tmobile and came to Cingular for one to get rid of stress of being a manager and two so i can have a reg schedule to go back to school and get out of this industry that once was a good and easy way to make money!

be patient with them. because you were once one of them. train them, make them one of your best. then when your regional comes in and the individual is doing great you can say "I trained him/her". It takes little effort to *****, it takes a lot to take care of and assist. Which side of the boat would like to be on.

Help them out is all i ask. OPUS is a ***** all in itself with Activation Failed/Telegence Communication Errors. On my laptop I have telegence, and trust me it was so hard to figure out. We all had to start somewhere.

Age isn't a factor here-I was in a corporate store about a week ago, and noticed two younger looking men helping someone who (by just looking, I would venture to guess) was in his mid-40's. He appeared to be mystified by the entire system, until I noticed the "trainee" part of his name tag. The gentleman to his left assisted me, and did so with a great deal of knowledge about the product that he was selling. I've been assisted by young and old, and have had bad experiences with both--seems to be across the board from my perspective.

In talking to many of the representatives, I find that they are doing what you are now returning to school to do: using the Cingular/AT&T job as a way to pay bills while working toward their undergraduate/graduate degree. So, needless to say, they have my respect.

Training definitely depends on who is training you. but no mater how good a trainer is the only way to actually know how to do things is by experience and coworkers helping you out. even if you know how to sell or have worked for other carriers [the t-mobile (CAM) is nothing at all like cingulars (OPUS)] it takes forever to learn how that system works. before I didn't go to training for 2 months after i was hired and in all honesty it was a waste of time. i actually learned more going to the help menu in opus than what the trainer said.

Crapular / ATT never did do much if any training. all they are concerned about is sales and profit and share price for the shaeholders. I have seen hundreds of great intelligent people leave ( some literally walk out the door at a busy lunch only to be replaced by a 20 year old PUNK who knows nothing about the business world and how to communicate with older people but thinks $9.50 p/h and a $600. comm check is great ? ) - . The company is too stupid or cheap to train people properly. You get back what you invest at the beginning. It takes 6 months to become very good at this job . Knowing the computer , the product, fixing phone problems, knowing answers to most moron questions that the low IQ's ask us all day , knowing when they are lying to us ( all day long ) , knowing how to port , knowing how to sell the product , etc etc . But there are only 3-4 companies to get cell phones with good plans and good coverage nation wide - so Crapular hangs in there. Imagine if there were 30 national cell co.s - SAMgular would be done a long time ago. How come 90% of all staff never make 5 years to get their pension ? reason they hate the company and dealing with yo yo's all day . And ever rising quotas with lowering comm. checks . What a nightmare !!

SoCal should read this--it only helps to illustrate my point about working for an Agent vs. COR. You will never find an Agent ranting like this about his company. We (Agents) all rant about Cingular Corporate...just like you guys do...see a trend?

This toothless tommy troll complained even when commisions were much better, so his postings are null and void. I doubt he even works for AT&T.. and if he does, he is a fool for working for a company he feels so strongly against.. correct?

There are SO many benefits of being COR. If you are looking for instant gratification, then an agent is for you. If you want benefits and promotions, COR is the only way to go.

Well, I'm glad we found some common ground, because I generally treat your posts with respect. There are pretty good benefits at the right Agent, but there really isn't much room to "climb the corporate ladder." It's a trade-off, I guess. When I started 10 years ago, I figured I'd get 3-5 good years in at most, considering the business trend--more work for less pay each year--so to be here 10 years later, still earning close to 6 figures every year, I guess I'm lucky. As for moving up within the organization, I find that most times, the sales staff makes more than the management staff, so why move up? You can always take your years of sales experience to another company if you have to.

SoCal your the troll. Notice the Verizon machine kicked Crapulars butts again Q1 ?? Socal must be an head office type - they are very defensive about their uselessness eg. hiding in their cubicles all day to avoid the cretin customers and newly hired 20 PUNKS with no college degrees or busniess experience . What a nightmare it is at SAMgular SELL SELL but we will pay you less PUNKS .

you are right on how the industry has changed, they hire way to many kids these days. No offense to anyone who is at a store or indirect who can't even drink a beer yet legally. They are just there to play with cool phones and what not. When I first worked for AT&T winter of 2000 the core team sales reps where mostly college graduates 25 to the oldest bunch being 40ish. Now it has to be 19 or 20.
It is cheaper to hire kids since they do not know any better, then pay seasoned professionals. I was offered a global account manager spot in NV area and I had to turn them down. AT&T's last offer was $50,000 base, and a few years ago that top spot would have easily been six figures!
