Screw the N75. I want the 6120 Classic

Great googlie mooglie, what's this? Can it really be a 15-millimeter thin candybar from Nokia, the makers of those chunky multimedia computers? Ok, it's not as thin as their N76 but let's give 'em some credit here for trying. Having fermented in the rumor mill for a few weeks, we now have ourselves a fully mature Nokia 6120 Classic running S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 over quad-band GSM and WCDMA/HSDPA 850/2100. The handset packs a 2-inch QVGA display, A2DP stereo Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, a 2 megapixel camera with flash, and MicroSD slot to store your media. A pre-tax, pre-contract price of €260/$352 will get you up close and personal when these hit sometime before June lets out. Check all the pics in the gallery below. Sorry, only a tiny backside pic for now; Nokia's being a bit shy 'bout their junk.

Too bad there's no 1900 3G.

WCDMA 850/2100 is a weird combo.

Judging by Nokia releases with Cingualr of late
(i.e. 6126 and N75) we'll probably be at 4G before this phone
ever sees North Amer. market.

It should work on cingular right? I thought cingular was HSDPA 850?

I believe that just about all is on 1900 as of now.

i personally dont care, i just want a nokia thats thin and is 3g and has symbian, N75 does it for me, and personally since im really good at negotiating im sure ill land one from customer care for 100 bucks with all these strange discounts applied LOL

Posted by: grdella

nokia 6300 is nice too...no 3g though...even thinner

Posted by: pauldg

i think this one is for telstra in Austrailia...their HSDPA is on 850 only i believe, and 2100 makes for Euro roaming.

That makes sense. But it is a nice looking phone. Simple in looks but still packed with features.

Yes should work with cingular's 3G network eventually if not now!

Jacksonville, FL WCDMA is 850mhz

Where did you find this out? I'm curious what my areas 3G runs on.

Posted by: b0stonirishguy

Test mode will tell you, if available.

Posted by: bikemanj7

Great! kinda nice we have another 3G option from nokia.

Posted by: suthurnlatino

i have been told that wcdma runs on 850 here in florida but my maxx with the telstra flash doesnt work. even if it says 850 i bet it wont work because it will be off a few mhz sorta like how tmobile's 2100 is.

Posted by: bikemanj7

well i know with the 850mhz UMTS it uses the same freq for uplink and downlink so it should work.

yeah that might just happen...though that would be great if it did work, it's a sweet lookin' phone

Posted by: bikemanj7

Yeah it is. I want one!

This is what bugs me about Nokia, just add 1900 umts to this phone and its perfect for US, and Aussie. I will just stick with my N73 for now.

Posted by: Nastronomical

It will work on cingular and that's all i care about. I am willing to bet this baby comes out before the n75.

Not necessarily. Most of Cingular's 3G is on 1900.

Since the N75 doesn't support HSDPA, I don't really see the big deal in it having 3G (850/1900), since without HSDPA, DL speed is only 384kps. Not much faster than EDGE. Definitely slower than the 1100kps I can get with my 8525... (but the problem with the 8525 and why i need to get rid of it is it's too damn big)...

So for me, the 6120 Classic would be perfect! I think having 850/2100 is a better option, since it allows 3G both here in the U.S. (assuming the 850 is available in the area), and also 3G abroad (Europe/Asia). Plus it supports HSDPA. And it's thinner than the N75, so size wise for me, the 6210 Classic makes more sense. Plus it has a faster processor.

I just wish we had better info as to when it will be available! On the european Nokia website, it says Q2 2007 (there's a pdf from the UK Nokia site.... http://www.nokia.co.uk/NOKIA_COM_1/..._factsheet.pdf). I just hope it's sooner rather than later....

cheers

This site has maps:

I don't know if they are up to date, though.

LOL! When I read Nokia 6120 Classic I though Nokia had re-released that black candybar phone with antanna they used to have for TDMA networks.

gsm only works good enough

this or the 6300 seem to be the only appealing nokias lately to me.

Wirelessly posted (something hot.: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.1; U; en-us) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

I'd rather have the N75.
