UTStarcom DV007

Just found out about this phone from the song a168 thread. It looks really cool with a rotating touch screen and (apparantly) running linux. All the sites I have found in google are in chinese:

I can't figure out if the screen completely rotates down (like the sharp 903 /nokia 6260) or what benefits there are to the linux OS. Any and all information is welcome!!

ok.... here i am...!

the form factor is more or less the same as Nokia 6260, instead of turning 360 degree, i would say it only turn 270 degree.

the flickr album link is my photo album, my name is Tommy... so, all the photo you see there is either taken by A168 or DV007.

and after viewing "http://ozmozr.com/feed/766", i don't think it's taken by UTStarcom DV007.

for linux, sadly, it cannot install any MPKG software like Moto E680i, it accepts .PRG software, but, I never saw one. People claimed that it share the same OS with Philips S968, and it runs the software that can be run on S968, however, after several testing, they failed to install.

so, it won't take any advantage from Linux **now**, but, i think, after several months, when some people hack the system, they may be able to install MKPG on it. I'm sorry that I have no time studying the long long long essay from the net, in order to hack the system and open the back door. I believe somebody will do it. It also depends on the sales volume, more people buy it, greater chance to hack it.

My comments:

Pro:
- it has built-in reader for Word/Excel/Powerpoint/PDF/E Book (in txt/html format)
- the system can shows traditional chinese, simplified chinese, russian characters and japanese.
- the speed of running JAVA app is superb, it's faster than SE, Nokia, Moto, most JAVA App/games start in 1 - 2 sec.
- it is the first flip + keyboard Linux phone. it's compact, light and small too!!
- no need to close one function before start another one, just send it to the back is ok.
- the buttons/function assignment is very good, you can launch MP3/Video by pressing one button.
- the 4 direction button have total of 8 function shortcuts, and users can assign shortcuts for the numpad, so, you can press 2 for quick-dialling someone, or press 3 to launch a function. it's the best software design i ever encounter.
- it can play avi/mp4/3gp 320x240 resolution movie clips.
- it records 320x240 movies.
- when receiving certain file type from other BT device, files will automatically moved to corresponded folder.
- the built-in browser and email are great!! the email app even supports attachments.
- __MOST IMPORTANT__ It's cheap!! I bought 2 DV007, the first one I bought it in a retail shop it costs me about 1280RMB (with a 256MB TF card), i.e. 164us, I've given it to my Dad to replace his Moto E680i. And the 2nd one, I bought it in a Chinese auction site, it only costs me 1090RMB (no card), i.e. 140us.
- I like the font the system using. It's clear, you may not know the difference if you only read English.


Con:
- No radio (i usually listen to radio during lunch time)
- MP3 function is minimal, you can't set EQ. (Repeat/Random/Playlist are available)
- Performance of the speaker is just ok. It's loud enough, but, don't turn the volume to maximum, otherwise, the sound will distract (i don't know how to describe in english... sorry!!)
- photo quality at night is poor.
- the camera lacks of macro mode and auto focus.
- it uses the mini USB port for battery charging, synchronization and handsfree, i'm afraid the USB port will broke down easily.
- the "shutter" effect is too loud, very annoying indeed!!
- it has USB thumb drive function, however, you need to pre-install a driver to the computer, it makes this function useless when I want to transfer some file from my friends/clients' computer.
- the stand-by hour is short, for normal usage, it can last for 1.5 day.


Other facts you may want to know:
- it lacks of an auto-resize function for MMS, so, if you want to send a large photo by MMS, there is no way to do so, or you have to set your camera to 640x480 mode and shoot it for MMS. (i don't send MMS that often, so, it doesn't bother me)
- video in 176x144 will only play in its size, and will not auto enlarge for full-screen viewing.
- it didn't accept MKPG software. (but most Java Apps are usable)
- it only accept below video formats:
avi Video: divx 4.0 or later Audio: mp3/
3gp Video: mpeg4/H.263 Audio: amr-nb/
mp4 Video: mpeg4 Audio: aac lc/amr-nb

Recently i bought DV007..but after a while the keys are not working, only the end key is working and the touch screen..the key pad buttons and the side buttons are not working.. my view is that the keypad is looked but i m not too sure..anyone have any suggestions, i really help in this thank you in advance

I recently bought the DV007 too and while I love the phone my service provider (telstra prepaid) are unable to help me set up the mms settings because its a linux and not microsoft. They sent me a whole heap of generic settings, but I'm unable to get it working. I'd also love an english manual, but after a lot of looking I've pretty much come to the conclusion that there is no such beast.

i have the exact same problem and am considering trying next g have you gone to a telstra shop i do not have that option as i live in central australia

ok hey this is my first post here i figgered i would sign up to tell you a bit more about the utstarcom dv007 so i geuss i signed up so i could write a mini review on the phone fell free to email me if you have any problems with it dj_denims [at] three [dot] com [dot] au


ok first of all ill start with design i got the black and silver model of the dv007
over all design shows that utstarcom has taken bits and pices from a lot of brands of phone eg keypad looks a lot like the keypad of the horibal motorola v3 so the keypad is verry stylish the over all clam shell design resemples the nokia 6260/n90/n93
with a nice silver utstarcom logo imprinted on the crome part on the side of the phone
the phone has a small led light inbuilt for status from what i can tell the led can only disply 3 colours pink (charging) red (charging phone when phone is off) blue (not shore if bluetooth or signal it flashes when bluetooth is off)

on the rite side of the phone there is 3 buttons a dedicated camra button that looks verry stylish a mp4 button that opens the video palayer and an mp3 button mp3 player
on the left side of the phone there is a volume up and down rocker where when held opens varous programs

ok now we will go to the display
from wha i can see it is a verry sharp display but shows small dots of the touch screen when off other from that there isnt much to say its a nice sharp touch screen display

menu
ok asfor the menu i have found i dontn eed to use the styles that much as i find my self using the keypad more tha anything and minamaly using the touch screen the phone runs on linux but from what i can see so far i can not find any programs for it but i am programsing an apalacation layer so you can use .cab files (win mobile)
i will get back to you on that when it is finished so for the moment it seems you cant use the fact its linux to much but java is avadabal more on that later

camera
ok this is the reason most people will get it for the camera if not that price lol
the camra isa 2mpx cmos camera that elaborates to 4mpx that means it basucly is like 2x zooming all the time in a sence its kind of hard to explain but the photos still come out good in adverage ligting conditions

bluetooth
ok as for bluetooth so far i have found it to be verry basic with one main bad point to send any data you have to be paired to the device so that means no bluejacking kiddies
also no the phone dosent have a2dp to my dissapointment i have tested it with my pair of blueant x5 stero headset

music player
the music player is verry basic and offors visulisation a fake visulisation of an equliser its just a .gif immage that trying to make you think its a real one
but the mp3 player is basic but not minamal as others have said most things r suported such as random and repete
but from what i can ell the phone only suposts mp3 having tested to much but i can tell you no wma as yet (im making a codec so you can again hold out for more)

charger/usb/headset plug
the phone uses mini usb for everthing
where that has its advantages it also has its disadvantages
advanatges:
you can charge via usb
you can get new headsets easly just ask for motorola v3x headset :P
usb cambe is easy to replace same as charger
disadvantages:
as others have said im fearfull that it will break as well

ok now pin point stylest
ok this is one bad thing i found
the phone comnes with a verry small easy to break stylest infact i broke mine with in 15 mins of taking it out of the box but utstartcome offors a a free replacemnt


ok usb mass storage mode
ok if you are using winxp/win 2k/vista
you will not need drivers for usb storgae mode when you plug in the usb cable it askes do you want to use usb storage mode to sync you need the utstar com magic software to sync e mail me if you need the cd software ill rapidshare.com the software

sound quality:
from the headset the sound is fine i played a 128kps mp3 file with the included sterio headset and its good quality sound
from the speaker the has a half decent speaker but when you turn it up full if you have a song with lots of bass or metal it will distort a bit so if that happes turn it down one notch to save the speakers life

battery life
ok the phone comes with 2 batterys again this is a bad omen genary but i have found i can last 1-2 days with hevy use (bluetooth on ocasionaly and some photos)
and 3-4 days with bluetooth off and moderate use
5max! ith minamal use


office:
ok the phoine suports many office formats that comes i handy on the road but you will want a laptop if you do a lot of office work

email
suports atachments and all great email app

java
ok java is verry fast yes you can thank the dual core prosessor for that
but i found there is some problems with java on the phone forst of all you can only use generic java games so none made for nokia or motorola phones n such
to insall java its simple you copy the .jar files (www.getjar.com)
to the phone in the java folder as i said PHONE MEMORY in the java part so coty to mnemoty card use file manager to copt to phone memory in the java folder
oprn the java app and go to brows and select you java file
opera mini works
atomic under ground works too

other apps inbuilt:
dictonary
the phine has an inbuolt english to chinese dictonary that suports most workds i was immature and typed in the kiddy words that we all love lol and yes it has them too great if you need to insult some one in chinese
timer
basic timer app
calulator
resembles the calc app found in many motorola phones

ok off that
mms and grrs setup
ok i managed to get mms and wap working on the folling australian networks
vodafone
telstra prepayed / blilled
virgin
optus

i have tested and got it working well with all of thoes netowkrs


ok tips i have found

phone lasts 50% longer when charged from power not usb
keep britness down to 3 gives you 10% more life
bluetooth off 15% more life
best qulaity photos use l setting not xxl
use the stylest as minamal as posibal to avood scree nscratches or stylest breakage
when using louad speaker tuen down one totch so you dont kill the speaker

ok so this conclueds my review for now il lleave you with some infoamtion

codec pack for wma/ogg/wmv relase date nov 07 contact me for more deatils
applacation layer so you can use winmobile files realse date yet to be confermed still i n beta testing contack me for beta copy

ok there is one way to insall .prg programs conect phone to usb on pc and on the phone go to pc sync tool open that phone will conect to desktop pc open ut star magic program click on write applaation and select the .prg file on your pc
click ok and insall
as for the manual i am currenty translating that into t english and will release it here when i am done but this might take some time any way if you have any probles email me or pm me even add me to msn

ok i have tested it out on my dv007 and it seems working all fine but there yes still is a chace you get a bricked phone but considering it works on mine in as many soanrios as i can work out the risk is minamal

wow great to see so many informative posts here!

gooodddammitt I haven't gone into the telstra shop - just spent a great deal of time on the phone with them. I figured since I got as far as their "advanced tech" people and they couldn't help me it wasn't much point walking into a shop and talking to a sales person. If you have any luck with that approach be sure to post back!

dj_denims thanks for all your posts and time you are putting in.. an english manual would be so helpful. For the layman who is unfamiliar with the terms, what does your software do? I think its great that you are able to write these sorts of things!

update:
as most of you now know i am currenty writing many apps for the phone
ok most of you know for sms messages to show up with the name i needs to have +61 blah blah blah
and for names to show up when some one calls you it needs to be the noral number
at the moment i am making a contact fix to fix that problem
at this point in time it is aplha status
and this is my new top priority
ok i have tested out as many sonarios to makie the phone brick and i have not been ableto to it means the sotware is safe at the moment
but the program and fix crashes..... a lot so hopefully in the next week i will be able to upload it well the beta version of it but i will do it as per request so if you are intrested email be or better yet add me to msn my email and msn is scattered all over this thread so have a look :P
i will try and update this thread as much as posibal
make a post here if you need any help with the phone

actually (i´m writting on my wii) i had notice a bug ... it consists :

when taking photos for a while ..or maybe after taking a video

the photo or videocam don´t let you store the photos or video(depends) in the t-flash card ... the solution i found instead of turning it off was to release the card and insert it again ...

i hope you can take it in your mods!!!!!

so if any one else has any problems or anything you would like me to fix and intarate it in to the sp1

i have manages to get a copy of wm5 ported the linux drivers
to make the dv007 fun on windows mobile 5
but the reason i will not relase it to public as of yet is for a few reasons
1) verry easy to brick your phone if you do not know what you are doing
2) the main reason you got the phone was for linux why do you want windows mobile 5 :P
3) its illegal to distribute copys of wm5

but that dosent mean i cant find a way around it :P
so you can have wm5
also i have manages to port kde use wmware and run a full blown copy of XP!!!
thoes will not be relased untill further notice tho but i might need beta testers
so in the mean time
just post your bugs n ways to recorate the problem so i can make sp1

bux fixes at the momwnt that will be included in sp1 is:
contact fix v1
memory card fix (alows sdhc cards so you can have up to 8gb cards :P )
wma/ogg plugins
win mobile applacation layer so you can have win mobile apps
camera extreem elaboration (alows 6 mpx shots :P)
inbult emulator for snes/gba/gb/nes/genisis/master system
a2dp suport
better bluetooth stack
usb host!!!!


so keep tunes to this thread if you want this and try to help me help you by posting problems you want fixed

so i will gve it one month to collect all datat i can from you that you want fixed
so then expect by the end of the year the beta version of sp1 for relase testers

full screen video when a movie is in 3gp and taken in smaller res
a better mp3 player
new ugi look with themes!!!!!

i might start a poll and see what people want it to look like
such as a kde look gnome look fluxbox
ect of if they just liek the look of it at the moment

ok i think one good thing i should tell evey one is how to fit over 1000 songs on a 512 meg memory card and still have it in good quality!!!

I'd love to be able to view images full screen, but the photo viewer doesn't seem to allow you to? And you don't seem to be able to add words into the new words book (dictionary?)? Although just because I can't do these things doesn't mean its not possible.. I still haven't gotten my mms working either

Hey that would be awesome. Actually after making that request I thought, the DV007 prolly hasn't enough oomph to run it.
Initially I was going to ask for a port of PearPC :-) Offcourse I'm joking..
If MAME proves too difficult to port, how about Frodo?

well what i will do is as you can read the sp1has a few emulators and with some small screen tewaking and a few cpu tweaks i cound even get the ps1 emulator to work but this is just in theory so not to shore abput that and as for poring the sp1 will have win mobile spplacation layer so you can just intasll on it what you can on a noral ppc

Forgive my indulgence, just a couple more requests...
How about a bash shell terminal. I know that's prolly not very important but I'd luv to have that just to show off to all my linux/unix guru friends, plus it could actually be handy. Could create my own scrips to automate certain things...

Lastly(for now), is there anything that can be done about the overly loud and annoying "shutter" sample when taking pics?

Nice find !! Some probs tho, can't change orientation, ie only landscape mode. And it doesn't read files from t-flash

it will be a lot like wine yes but with a few magor changed im exploiting the fact that they both use the same type of cpu for as most of you know this phone has 2 cpus
the reason for that like most linux devises is its smart lol
it uses one for the os to maintain and the other for apps
thisis why java is so good lol
and yes i will intagrate as much as i can in to the sp1 man i have my work cut out for me

ok today is the big day the first app for the dv007 is relased!!!!


this first app is just a simple one but still its somthing

this app is a speed booster
it makes the phone run faster

ok now i have only foubd one problem with the app the software on your computer dosent say it installed
but dw it does

ok this is the instaler porsess now read this its important ok
1) download the app
2) extract the zip file
3)on the phone open up pc sync
4)plug in usb cable in to borh pc and phone
5) NO NOT CLICK USB MODE
6) on the pc click on phone then write applacation (look at the top nere file)
7) the app will say the phone is not connected after it has sent it to the phone dont worry it still insalls
8) restart the phone
9) enjoy the extra speed and most importany thank me
or i will not make many more software

Very cool. I can't install at present, cause I only have access to an iBook but as soon as I get home I'll install it. Meanwhile, I'll be running some tests like running as many apps as possible, simultaneously (multitasking) while taking notes on performace/speed etc. And I'll repeat these tests after installing your app and see what difference(s) it yeilds.
I'll post here what I find...

ok this program i worte is verry simple its tweaks the os
by making the prioiry of some things more important eg set to realtime instead of noral
plus also what it does it uses free space to use as extra ram when needed so you efecty has more ram and the last way it works is it weaks the os so it can use both prosessors at the same time instead of having one for os one for apps this makes it so it uses bith at the same time

Hey DJ, seems your speed patch is a big hit here. I'm a bit jealous, cause I'd like to contribute but without the right tools that ain't gonna happen.
Some time ago I was trying to find out what linux distro is used. The closest I found was MIZI's Lin@ embedded system.

So I was wondering if you could tell us a bit about this OS. Where can we get the source, compiler etc.. so we can give you a hand..

any way there is no real need to find out what os as soon as my spi will be realased you will be bale to run win mobile apps that there is thousends for plus it will be kde with my own custom disro of linux on it making it 1000x better bacuse u will be bale to use noral linux apps!!!! and blah blah blah any way feel free to contact me via pm pm or msn and ill give you what i know

but some steps in the rite direction is look for the sdk for the green phone
and read up about programing win mobile

as i said i used a .exe as a host file bacuse with the dv007s programing it needs a dummy .exe file to accept .prg files so inside the .prg file it is a .exe with a few lines of extra code and some taken out of angree ip scanner
any way off that

ok now some extra things i have found out about the dv007 in my workings i know the type os os the dv007 funs on and i now know how to exploit it to my own whims
the phone funs on a copy of linux called c8000 make by cellon cellon is now owned by tolltec or somthing liek that

also thgis is the news as well
i will be staring a website up soon with the software i have made with alpha and beta relases in it
and well the full when they r done
when i have finished the site i will give the url here also i managed to translate the manual so if any one is intrested in that msn me :P
it has sone usefull things in it

ok now that is all done i will post a quick totorial on how to insall java games

ok this is verry simple plug phone in to usb and enables usb disk mode

load all the java files in to a folder on the memoty card called "temp"

then safely unplug your usb cable

on the phone go to file manager

navagate to the memory card and the temp file

copy all of the java apps to the PHONE in the folder java

open up the java manger and select brows and insall java apps

all of the java apps here wored 100% on my dv007

this is just a the first pack if you would like some differant types of games
eg more racing more blah blah blah post it here and ill post some more later

some of the games r 18+

some r just useless yet fun

i have had over 30 downloads of the files i have just recently posted and yet i only have 2 people saying thank you

im not asking for much im not charging for my software where i could so easly sell it

all im asking for is a simple thank you

for putting in my hard time and effort

1. take out the memory card entirely\

2. open UT magic

3. choose the pc sync mode

4. wait for the phone to have this sort of animation that says "connected" or somthing in green

OK i have begun working on my new mod for the phone
as you know the mp3 player is basic to say the least

so i figgered i would rewrite the music player

with a few new things:

support for winamp classic skins!!!
full eq
send audio to bluetooth headset
real visulisations!!!! like found in wmp
better quality sound and more volume!! (just dont turn it up full on metal it will damage the speaker )
any way if you have any more sugestions u woild like me to add to the new media player tell me

and no this is the audio player not the video player

also codecs will be included with it for wma/ogg/aac+/flac
and a few other random formats

Ok i found out a few reason why there arnt any softwares for the dv007 and other c8000 linux devices

ok we will start with some history

the company cellOn hired out Qtopia to make a new linux platform for them to sell
the c8000 linux

all was fine and dandy for some time as cellon was happy with there new embeded linux with oem and comapns being able to customise it to there likeing
they were good high end smartphones with mega pixel camera documents readers all that fancy bulltrip

then cellon befor the could relese to the public the sdk to make apps closed down

hense why there are not any apps for the phone
no skd+minimal support+not a poplar platform yet = no apps

you can read some more about the c8000 interface and how it was made on here

this was made back in 05 woot

Cool. I’m partial to OSX, even tho I’m no Mac fanboy but I do like their simplistic interface.
Having said that, I also like gnome and kde interface. And seeing our dv007 runs linux, I’d say a theme that reflects the OS’s underpinning would be more appropriate.

as far we been researching there is no way to flash/format/or extract the source code ... we don't know where to get apps, where to find the source code, anything at all.

those codes aren't mine ... they are from a chinesse fella who post them on a forum ...and he/she also have posted in this thread ("tiger_bb") !!!!

there is something interesting in a file I found on the net .....is called "qnes.prg" and it's supoussed to work with philips968 .... but we hadn't been able get it

I also found it on some chinese page (I can't remember the address at the moment) few months ago and it seems that there were some clues about ".prg" packages generally but I don't know chinese language and didn't have enough time to dig dipper using google translate Maybe you'll have more luck with it (or maybe tiger_bb can help us)?
I also tried to use some instructions from motorola linux phones related page (it seems that they have similar or maybe the same only modified os) but nothing worked for DV007.
I think that this phone has great potential but lack of support from the manufacturer makes it hard for us to take full advantage of it's capabilities

to be honest I agree with doperst and gigyz claiming that you haven't really written any app for DV007. I went to your page and downloaded one of apps but first of all it can't be installed and the second thing is that when you just change extension to .exe it runs as normal win app and I don't belive that linux app for linux os needs any dummy exe file to be hosted in it. I asked you for details of .prg package but you didn't answer my question so I assume that you have no idea how it really works and without knowing that even if you write some app you can't put it into .prg package and it will be impossible to install it on DV007. All the "apps" that are on your page don't add any new funcionality or don't fix anything that can be easily noticed.
So dj be a real man and stop telling us lies !
I appreciate your willingness to make some move and noise around DV007 and attract more people to the idea of "hacking" this phone but telling lies and giving false promises is not the way you should go. ok i think the key to making these peograms work is to use the philips tool but to make that work i think you need ot edit the drivers if you have a look at borth the dv007 drivers and the philips one they r both identical in evey way ecept for the device names
so my geuss is if we can edit the drivers a tad we might be bale to get it to work but thats just a wild geuss
and then even if we do get it working there is no garentee that apps will still install thats why i have opted to make a forced app installer
so it forces it to work lol if that makes any sence well ill see what i can do in the coding departemtn tomroo bacuse its 3am here and well im tired as well yeah me with out coffee

If it is a PC software issue, you might try downloading prg via gprs or mms... Just an idea... I'm a Mitsubishi fan and we used to have similar problems with downloading melodies. Tho i am happy owner of Mitsubishi M900 and it can download apps any possible way.

ok just for all of thoes so they save some time i looked at the coding an itseems as if it only has support for chinese so i tryed chaging the launage on the phone no sugess also i tryed chaging the coding and same problem
i will keep trying and post on my site an update shortley hopefully soon i can get it to work

For those who run windows, you can view/extract the files in Qnes.prg with winzip/winrar by changing the extension from *.prg to *.tar
The "explorer.yprg" file is a gunzipped tarball, change extension from *.yprg to *.tgz and winzip / winrar will recognize it.

Unfortunately neither apps will install. Me thinks it has to do with the installer script (Install.conf)...

Any ideas, anyone??

my dvoo7 wont sync with the comp, i try sync option in the menu, or by long pressing "9", still its not work.
And when utmagic ask me to select a comp port, i only have 1 port choice, and it wont work!!!

it's hard to say what the problem is.
When I start the UT magic app I always have to manually configure the comport(for my system it's com20).

When you plug in the usb cable, do you get "Ok to start USB mass storage?" on the phone? If so you must select cancel or else you can't sync the phone...

Btw, what version of windows are you running??

I did cancel the USB mass storage, but still.
I try to manually configure in, but i only have 1 option, comport winsaf0 or somthing like that.After a while trying to connect, the program said its either my phone or my computer have problems??!?!?!

I do this like that and it always works however error message appears quite often
1. Connect phone to pc via usb.
2. on the phone cancel data storage mode nad run pc sync (from menu or by holding 9)
3. run utmagic on pc
4. e.g. import contact list
5. if utmagic tries to connect for long time then I know that there will be error message and setting port manually doesn't help me so when error appears I unplug usb and after few seconds I plug it again and then try again to import.

yeah, but my utmagic pop up the error message every single time, so i dont know what to do anymore

I just downloaded all of those java apps including qq2007. So far I've only tested (briefly) qq2007 but I don't understand anything cause it's all in Chinese. After randomly clicking through various options it started the web browser and that's as far as I got...
I'll test the rest and report back if I find anything useful...

Hi VNDUCK you may also look if you have a modem that is not being used if you are on highspeed internet it will try to take com port 20 and cause a conflict with the phone.

Hi All, I've just spent the last 2 days on and off going through this forum... whew... what a read! Anyway, I'm contemplating getting this phone but it all looks so complex I don't know if I'm opening pandora's box by getting one or what... I would love to be able to run windows mobile on it or something like that, it looks like it could be a slow process to get to that point, based on how long it's taken to work out the guts of it to date. I've never had experience with linux but have built and troubleshooted windows based pc's for a decade so figure I could wrap my head around linux without too many headaches
But anyway, the crux of my post is basically, do I get this phone? Should I post in a new thread or..? I want something with decent cam, touchscreen, good OS and apps, want to be able to have GPS as well i'm a bit of a map head and figure it couldn't go astray.
Anyway, was some entertaining reading, thanks all for the information so far (now that the real information has surfaced!)

Hmmm, looks to me like the DVCTG-N95-s is identical to the DV007 in appearance and features. Strange that UTStarcom would release the same fone under a different name unless this is an upgraded model.
Either way, I'm not sure I would recommend it or the DV007 for that matter, especially considering that you (like us) would like to run lots of apps etc.. Also, forget about running Win Mobile on it and there's no GPS either

Now don't get me wrong, it's a cool fone and it has a lot of potential but right now there's no support from the manufacture and no 3rd party apps

On page 7 of this thread, dj_denims posted some java apps and games, worth checking out, imo. Also do a google for "j2me games", there stacks...

On the subject of java apps. I just been playing with "vNes" Nintendo emulator. It runs quite fast and all the roms in the Qnes.prg work with it too Then there's jmec64, a Commodore 64 emulator. It runs very slow, tried Geos on it and it took 10minutes to load Definitely cool for the novelty of it

recenty i have contaced Utstarcom and informed them about my site and they decided to agnolage the fact that they made the dv007 unlike previous people and they stated to me that they will soon develop an update to the os and metter sync software as they agnolage that the utstarmagic is **** :P
anyway when it is up it will be on my site both the new rom immage and the new sync software

what do you suppose these numbers on the left are for? There not the filesize, maybe checksum?

I played around with MobyExplorer 3.0 (j2me applet), and found the full path of where this app resides

to convert videos i'm using Xilisoft - MP4 Converter and it works just fine....
so i don't see any problems with convert vids, as long as the vid res. is 320x240 it will play fullscreen

I use "Total Video Converter". It does a great job and VirtualDub is brill for editing, so no problem with full screen vids here either...

Well I'm not totally convinced but anything is possible. However I reckon we still need to understand how the install script works, remember the UT Magic app doesn't unpack the .prg archive and runs the installer script, the phone does that. So even if you get that Philips app to work we will still need to know how to package our own apps...
