Is this possible yet?

You need to

SEARCH

But no, it's not yet. If you'd searched you would have discovered that Cingular will begin testing the new OS in May and it will likely be released as an upgrade within a few months of that.

DORK

I did search, and then I find (on other websites) downloads for "Windows Mobile 6 beta". The filenames aren't phone specific so it seemed to be a universal thing...

I have heard (rumors) that the Beta WM6 sends out random texts over seas and you are billed for it. Some sort of money making scam?

Anyway, rumors, be careful.

There is no such thing as universal WM OS. Each ROM file is specific to the hardware it is written to. There are WM6 betas out there for most HTC phones like 8125/Wizard, 8525 and DASH. But haven't seen any for BlackJack yet. WM6 will be available for BlackJack this summer (widely discussed a few weeks ago).

That's only the T-Mobile WM6 Beta ROM - it sends an SMS to the UK. The other WM6 ROMs I've used don't do that.

Nowhere on that page does it say anything about Windows Mobile 6. This is just an update to the WM5 software that, among other things, changes the Cingular branding to AT&T.

Word is that Samsung will start field testing WM6 for the Blackjack in late May 2007, with expected availability 8 weeks later.

All the scoop right here.

That WM5 update for changes the branding, will that effect my unlocked BlackJack and lock it back up? Also will I loose my TMobile settings (wap, mms, etc)

Look for it around September. I'm sure all these companies are having meetings trying to figure out how they can make money off of this OS update. Sure it may be "free" but their still trying to figure out how to make money from it. It's the American way.

I have no faith whatsoever in any of these carriers doing anything "just" for the customer.

Agreed... especially with "It's the American way"... however, there are 2 approaches to that. The short term, near sighted approach which is charge the bastards and get fat today and be gone tomorrow. The "this quarter's profits", Wall Street, Hahvod Business School way.

The other approach is the long term, smart approach (IMHO) which is, treat your customers well and they will return and more importantly, tell their friends how good a company/product/experience they have had. This is the best advertising money can buy!

During the internet boom, I came to understand and truly appreciate viral marketing. Conversely, remember how an early Intel Pentium 4 (1994?) had an obscure floating point bug and Intel shrugged their shoulders and said, heck, hardly anybody will run into that problem. Their response just didn't 'taste right' and I thought everybody learned at that point to do the right thing. Silly me! (And oh how I love my AMD based computers, take that Intel)

I bought an Motorola MPx220 from Cingular early on and had to exchange it 4 times due to the numerous problems that phone had. It was a pain in the butt however, I came to appreciate how well Cingular stood behind the crap they sometimes sell. The MPx220 was a very nice piece of crap... I have loved Microsoft SmartPhones every since.... fortunately, for the most part, it (AudioVox SMT5600 & Blackjack) has been uphill since. Oh, what I'd give for a clamshell Blackjack with that smart, mechanical, MPx220 closing click -- it gave me 5 bars!!

Bottom line is, do it for the customer and you will be doing it for yourself... long term. It just requires a little faith, patience and luck I guess.

Well, they better hurry up, T-Mobile has released the OFFICIAL and FINAL upgrade for Mobile 6 on the DASH on May 05, 2007. WHAT THE HECK IS TAKING CINGULAR AND SAMSUNG so dang long. Oh I forgot they have to remember to disable the Wi-Fi again. Really, there is no valid excuse for not being able to do it, so what is causing them to slow it down. A local store manager told me Friday that word went out that Cingular may delay Mobile 6 on the Blackjack another 1 to 2 months into August or September. He claimed that they are doing extensive testing and revisions to get it right so they are telling people asking it may take longer than expected. THEN HOW CAN HTC and T-MOBILE get it out already. WHAT THE HECK IS HE TALKING ABOUT? I don't find it credible they need 8 weeks more to test it. Beta and RC versions have been out for a long time. You mean they have not been testing Beta and RC versions already for the past month or two. If T-Mobile has the final version already, why doesn't Samsung and Cingular? What is going on here? iPhone? What?
