I am in the process of purchasing a ppc. Its either going to be the cingular 8525 or the Softbank version of the hermes, I know both of these phones are basically the same with the exception of the camera in the front. Is paying an extra 50 dollars worth the camera. Any help would be greatly appreaciated, Thanks

Two things...
Where are you?
Do you want to use a camera for voice calls?

No one can change this things and you forgot to add them.

I am in Texas using the T-mobile network, i dont think you can do voice calls. So i guess there is reall no need for the front camera. But can't you do more with the front camera than just voice calls?

nope....well you can take pictures at 0.3mp....but then again you do have a better 2.0mp at the back....you can also look at yourself...

I have the 8525, I would prefer the Softbank version because it does look nicer, although i've heard of keyboard problems, so i avoided that and just got the 8525.

You'll be pleased with whichever one you decide to get

and not to mention touch screen alignment problems....its rare on the 8525 but plagues all the others.

Does the softbank version support North American HSDPA? i know on the specs sheet at GSMarena that it says only UMTS next to data. but im almost positive that the boards are identical, and if the HTC TyTn has HSDPA, then shouldnt the X01HT also? i just need to know if when i setup the internet settings on the Softbank, that it will have high speed access and be able to make video calls on the Rogers Network.

yup you are correct that the boards are identical. i am not sure if the original softbank ROM will allow you to select canada's UMTS band, but you can always flash to another ROM and you are good to go.

The origial screen alignment issues, were they not on softbank phones?

theres a list on XDA's PPC wiki....seems to be both the original tytn, some softbanks and other variants...but not the 8525s
