Nokia 9500 obsolete?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I was actually thinking about getting one until I saw that it came out 2-2.5 years ago. If the model is that old, I wonder if it's obsolete...particularly when it's so expensive. Any thoughts on whether this is still a "cutting edge" phone would be great or are newer (and cheaper) phones like the Dash the way to go...

I don`t know how much $$ your talking about, but I would wait for the newest communicator the e90 to be released and pick one up. It will have the latest s60 os and will be much more functional than any of the s80 devices imo. I have a 9300 that I love, but when the e90 is released it will become my emergency backup only.I think the e90 will mean the end of series 80 for all practical purposes. I certainly would not purchase any s80 device for full price at this point in time. my .02

The 9500s can be had for well under $250 on ebay. What about the newer Dash? Any idea how it compares with the communicators? Thanks.

The dash is windows os I believe. So they are 2 diff operating systems. I have used both os`s and I prefer symbian s60. It is much more stable. Doesn`t crash or freeze anywhere near as much as wm5. If you have never tried windows mobile I have heard the dash is good. Newer ones may have wm6 on it, not sure about that. Do a search of both systems in the various forums and you will get enough info to make the right choice. Me, I`m waiting on the e90. Do a search of that on google and you will see a truly awesome device.

The E90 does look amazing but at that price Nokia would have to send me a freebie to review :-) I will look around some more...I think capability wise the Dash and such cheaper phones do everything the communicators do but the keyboard on the communicators look a bit more useable...

I have a 9500 and love it. I don't use it much these days. Right now I'm using a Nokia E61 and want to sell it to get the newest E61i. I suggest you take a look at the E61 if you want something newer then the 9500. Both are fantastic phones and both use the Symbian OS. Though the E61 uses Series 60 not Series 80 like the 9500 sports. If you have any questions feel free to ask me and also take a look in the S60 forum. The E61 was the business phone to have in 2006 and 2007 until the E61i becomes widely available. But you should know that the 9500 is still a fantastic phone and worth every penny you pay if that's what you want.

The 9500 is a great phone but i think S80 has been discontinued. the new communicator.. N95? i think uses S60

E90 is the next communicator which runs s60. Im trying to patiently wait for it. It should be worth the wait.

BTW N95 is not a communicator.

I've read that the 9500 is bulkier but compensates with an excellent keyboard compared to the 9300i. I am willing to put up with more bulk if the keyboard is really superior...can someone corroborate? Thanks.

The 9500 keyboard is the BEST. New Berlin where are you located? If your local your welcome to come and try my 9500.

I'd like to try it. Would you be willing to send it to me for a quick trial? I promise I'll send it back.

i just hope the new communicator with S60 can at least match what the S80 can do in terms of phonebook handling and messages...
from what ive seen, it doesnt seem to be the case. so i may have to keep the 9500 as my primary phone till S60 communicators can keep up.

im an avid communicator user. i have the 9110, 9210, 9210i, 9500, 9300, and 9300i but i use the 9500 as primary right now. keyboard and its phonebook+messaging handling is just far superior compared to anything else out there. i also have the n95 which is a s60 but not a communicator.
