hard reset 7250 unable to access desktop

Howdy, I'm trying to hard reset a 7250. I am unable to access the desktop on the blackberry - just have an hour glass. I've tried a soft reset, no joy, I left the battery out for over an hour, still no joy. There is a reset "area" under the back cover but there isn't a button to push. I searched but the only results I found were to wipe the hand held via options, which I can't get to. Cheers!
