My own phone: Moto KRZR K1 unlocked...went in to have the intermittent sound cutting out problem repaired.
The repair shop, without asking, flashed the phone with a software "upgrade" from Rogers.

Not only did this wipe everything that I'd done out - such as websessions and replace them with stuff that didn't work. But it also altered the main menu and sub menus.

The main menu now has "Rogers Mall" instead of....? (I don't know what is missing now - Google shortcut I think).

What was called Browser before is now called Internet and only has 3 choices: Internet, Browser Setup and Websessions buttons. It had a 4th one - WebShortcuts before.

I want my Web Shortcuts button back....how do I get it?

Now in order to look at bookmarks I actually have to use up my valuable browser time on the internet either checking my Rogers bookmarks or my Opera Mini bookmarks. Before I cut just cut straight to a URL from the main menu.

It's taken me all day just to get my websessions back in order and my email etc. working as it should.

How can I get this shortcuts button back without completely screwing up the phone?

I don't know anything about flashing. Where would I find such a thing, and isn't that what the repair shop used anyway?

That would once again wipe out all my settings right?

which repair shop did you take it to? I need my dads K1 flashed with the newest software version. P.S. ALL service centres flash your phone because it is just as important to flash it to fix problems as it is to open and replace components.

All Tech-Neek Electronics, Kennedy rd Mississauga (recommended by Motorola). I think that flashing should be only if they check with you first as things get lost. I could replace personal stuff and ring tones etc. But now I have no Web Shortcuts and Web "Go-to" buttons and that is a real big nuisance.
If the phone works fine, why flash it!

Well, IIRC. One of the owner manuals had some disclaimer about backing up your personal data before servicing your phone, pretty sure it was Motorola. Heck, some service centres even take the time to put a big sign in the front with those exact disclaimer too just incase the customer did not read his/her booklet.

You can always re-flex your phone with a european flex that has the unbranded menus back, or you can learn about seem editing and re-enable those menus yourself.

I'm doing a lot of reading at modmymoto.com. They have some unbranded K1 flashes...I'll see what happens.

The personal stuff is replaceable and I did back it up. It's losing menu buttons that I needed that bugs me.

Well I managed to flash and get my menu back, but I also got a totally new font, menu layout was itemised with no option of icons at all and everything I'm used to having in a certain place, was in a totally different place or not there at all, so I gained some and lost more, so now I'm back to the Rogers screwed up flash again (I had the forethought to back it up using ...."Flash & Backup").

If anyone can find me a factory settings monster pack, I'll be eternally grateful. I've looked high and low. Motorola wont let me have one (I know they could..."The public can't flash their own phones"...LOL) and Rogers can't help either, and they were willing to, even though the phone is mine.

I wish I'd noted the S/W & Flex Versions before I sent it in for service.

Added a few mins later...just got an email from Moto.
"From the IMEI # you provided, your phone was originally developed for the Singapore market. Loading Canadian carriers firmware would have altered settings. "You may have loaded Canadian software on your phone by calling us at 1-866-345-6686 to programme the unit."
What the heck do they mean by that?

modmymoto has a ton of packs i havent looked into it too much as ive already modded certain aspecs of mine that i dont want to have to repeat

( even the parts i broke and cant fix)

LOL Life's tough. Anway, If I could lay my hands on a Singapore monster pack it would be great. Then I could go back to square one at least.
Then of course, I've have to use P2K to delete all the websessions. There were 6 if I recall.

I found a Singapore one thanks to a very helpful person over at ModMyMoto so have flashed with R4527_G_08.02.81R_PDS013_LP0024_DRM0101_VSTG_30D_0 c_JPJAVA_G_08_R4527DI_05_00_1CR_GSTCNRYT677VV128_1 FF.sbf
Everything back to what it was with a bonus of Screen 3, which actually is useless to me now as Rogers doesn't support it, so it's turned off for now.

The only snag I can find is sometimes the Exit button is now very slow to work in menus especially and the soft keys are fixed at "Options" and "Main Menu"
No big deal though as the Options key actually has some more shortcuts on it.

I HIGHLY recomend that you do the seem edit on modmymoto under guides, the one that makes the pics tumbnails instead of having to scroll one by one, SOOOOO much nicer!!

Also for anyone else out there im looking for a replacement Alarm Clock program... Moto's alarm clock just doesnt cut it

lool the k1m is good its just the altel firmware loaded onto the phone they have a different web icon which i dont like but other then that i love the phone i love the k1 too but theres no evdo or touch buttons but the camera is amazing and i love the colour of the k1 from rogers

I'd be interestes in trying it to see if it is different from the one I have now. The current one has "Screen3" which bloacks the ability to change the left and right soft keys and is useless with Rogers as they don't support Screen3 technology.
I have it turned off but it makes no difference to the soft keys.
