Hey guys so Ive had my 8525 for a little bit now and Im having this really wierd and random issue I'm hoping someone can shed some light on. The last few days when ive been trying to use my phone sometimes (and this only happen occasionally, but when it does it is so bad I have to turn the phone on and off or its unuseable) acts like im pushing a button and wont let me do anything.

For example, yesterday no matter what I pressed (the message key on the top, the start button, contacts, anything) the phone would go right abck to the Today screen and close whatever I was in. No matter what I did it would just go back. Then this morning it was just making the start menu appear and dissapear randomally and I couldnt do anything.

It makes the phone unuseable while its doing this and the only fix I have found is turning it off and on and sometimes that doesnt even work. Anyone have any ideas? Bad digitizer? Bad screen? Bad phone? Any input is appriciated otherwise Im giving Cingular a call later today... Really dont want to get this phone repalced already tho.

Thanks for the help guys!

if i were you i would check if any of the buttons are getting stuck from where... this usually happends when phones come out of the factory and h they have that plastic sticket on it to help prottect it from damage sometimes when you peel it off some of the gunk from the stickers get stuck there.... but if this issue still goes on you can call up your service provider and tell them about it. if its only a couple of months then your warranty should still be up

There is I'm afraid an issue with some of these Tytn/Hermes/8525s where in portrait mode the phone closes applications and in landscape mode it constantly brings up the start menu. This is not a software issue. It is caused by pressure on the top right corner being placed between the touch sensitive screen and the bezel/case. Some people find doing a screen alignment works others not. Many have had to get a replacement.

Problem with some only arises as device gets warm - maybe only after 10 mins to half an hour of switching on.

Just an update. I ended up trying to do a software reset on my phone and then it just got stuck on the digitzer setting of setup. I ended up having to get a replacement phone which is working much better now.

When I called in the woman I talked with said it was actually a digitizer issue with the phone and the reason it wouldnt calibrate in initial setup (and thus not go past that point) was because hard resets with a malfunctioning digitzer completley break the digitzer.

Just wanted to put what the issue and solution was in the end for future searches and people.

Yes, most folks with this problem need to get a replacement. However, I urge a little caution with the explanation given about the digitizer. For most folk it will make no difference what the real cause was because you get your replacement and everything is fine. But for those, and there are quite a few, who do their own repairs - be aware that others have found that replacing the digitizer does not work and the problem returns. (of course that's not to say that a digitizer fault isn't the explanation in a few cases). Be aware also that sellers/manufactures prefer the component fault explanation to the "we have a certain percentage of misaligned casings" ie poor build quality explanation. In addition screen problems are often put down to digitizer issues purely as a quick and easy explanation.
