Posted by: mySRT8U

Does this upgrade to WM6? Sorry i'm out of the loop ever since i got this phone so i don't know anything about these ROM/WM6 updates.

Posted by: mySRT8U

no its AKU 3.5 so im assuming its Windows Mobile 5

Posted by: 1906!

Wow, so when will it be official? Also, will the upgrade erase everything on the phone? Or will this be a "hot" upgrade?

oooh, can't wait

Releasing it at the same time as the european launch of the HTC Kaiser? not very smart in my opinion...

Posted by: shogunmark

wow.. i have been registered here a long time but never really posted... but let me go ahead and clear up some misconceptions...

Yes this is WM5 its AKU3.5.2
Yes PTT is enabled
Yes upgrading does wipe your phone, and DO not make a back up from the old rom and restore the back up to a new rom.. you WILL encounter problems
Radio version is 1.40.30.00
Has a new ATT music folder
Also has 2 scripts built in for enable/disable proxy
The My Isp connection now has the ISP.CINGULAR APN (mentioned this to help people avoid costly charges..)
Yes this rom is slow, however its stable
Will this be the official shipped rom, doubtful (but i could be wrong)
and the biggest deciding factor for me.... This ROM saves major battery life.. but mostly due to the radio!

Can you ellaborate? Does it allow turning off data (and keeping it off)?

thnx

Posted by: shogunmark

ok, let me elaborate....

There are still 2 connections
1. MEdia Net (uses the wap.cingular APN with the proxy server)
2. My Isp (uses ISP.cingular APN with NO proxy)

The phone also has a 2 new links in the start menu that will allow you to enable/disable proxy easily for the MEdia net connection... so there is no need to really switch off of MEdia Net unless you are paying for pda connect... I know personally i was in the habit of leaving it on MY ISP connection from my old 8125 and just wanted to mention it to make people aware of the change!

When attempting to install the new rom I get an error code 362. What causes that and is there anyway to get around it? Is it better to wait for the official release from Cingular?

We"ll never be as up to date with our products in the states as they are over in europe.

Its been that way for a while now. If we released only what was current overseas we wouldnt have any phones to buy.

Posted by: mySRT8U

its cingular approval process. tmobile doesnt see to care so they release phones few months after initial release in europe

That may be to some extent, but thats a seperate thread You assume that the Kraiser isnt in AT&T very near future, but it is.

..and thats another discussion Ive been meaning to start.

What is difference between radio version 1.4 and radio 1.33 (which I currently have?) Can the radio vers. 1.40 be downloaded separately from the 2.15ROM? Can it just be an upgrade without wiping out the entire existing ROM?
I currently have ROM vers. 2.06 and it is working seemlessly. I do not want to have to reload all programs and try to get CV working again. I also do not want to have to do the registry tweaks again as well.
Thanks-

Its not much but its a start

I sent a message to HTC and was told that they are working with HTC devices and WM6 to determine what devices will be offered, but no estimated time for delivery is available. Check the HTC America site for software updates.

That's the 'official' answer to availability for the 8525.

very good "ship" firmware update for the 8525. Phone lasted 3 days without charge so far. Only hack i want to figure out is how i can change the signal between G and E and keep it permanent. Does anyone know if the fit4cat program work for this "ship" firmware or a link were i can find a working registry edit for that. Thnx in advance.
