Blackberry Pearl or Sidekick 3?

I am really torn between these two phones. I used to have a Sidekick II, but the screen got busted. I don't really like the bulky factor of Sidekick, but I love it's AIM client and have heard that AIM on the Pearl isn't too great. Any opinions would be much appreciated.
EDIT: Can either be used as a modem with a Mac?
